I chose to move south of Pax & work about 15-20 minutes from home. I encounter traffic problems maybe once every two months. Nobody asked you to work @ a job apparently far from home that requires you to sit in traffic for X # of hours per day each way. That was your choice.

Well that's our difference, there aren't that many jobs in my area that will pay me, or offer me an opportunity for advancement like I have now.

You obviously realize that there are drivers out there that are azzholes, of which you apparently count me one of them, but odds are I've never even driven w/i 50 miles of you so you're safe in that regards. And you obviously realize that you need to be a defensive driver in order to insure your safety & the safety of your passengers. Just avoid driving on any road that I'm on @ the same time & it'll all be okay.

I only counted you amidst those drivers due to what you typed, I'm sure you're a normal person in real life, but I can only judge what I've seen. I also have had 0 accidents & minor traffic violations. Either way the bandwagon is jumping on here so I'm on my way out. I hate followers. No hard feelins Barb.

Sure, if it would make you feel better.
But just please remember that I do have feelings.

I didn't suggest that anyone do anything. I merely stated what I do when making a left turn. Someone rear-ends me like that during any situation on the road because of inattentiveness, etc., I'm likely to get out of my truck afterwards & break my face smacker Mag-Lite off in their azz.

Hitting someone with a mag-lite wouldn't have brought my dead kids in the back-seat back to life .. would it?

Here is the scoop

I contacted the Maryland Legislature Committee on Transportation and here is the respons I received from them.

Dear Mr. King:
Thank you for your recent correspondence to my office. Upon research regarding the legislative intent of Article 21, section 304 by my legislative analyst the following applies. A driver may pass on the right legally WITHOUT crossing the white line if the driver can do so safely and if there is enough pavement to allow for two or more lanes of traffic. In addition a driver may cross the white line and pass on the right to avoid a vehicle that is turning left. So, if a vehicle is passing on the right unsafely and crossing the white line for any reason other than to avoid a vehicle about to make a left turn, it is illegal. The Attorney General's office also confirms this interpretation.

I hope I answered your question.

Sincerely,

Senator DeGrange

Glad to see our Senators don't have anything better to do than answer our curiosities about the legality of passing on the right.

Aren't they there to respond to the wants and needs of constituents? Or do you have some other definition of the term "representative"?

But wait, there's more...

Yes ... they ARE supposed to answer constituent inquiries ... either directly or by forwarding your concerns on to the appropriate agency and facilitating a speedy response, which they usually do when coming from a Senator/Congressman vs. average Joe citizen (which is a shame). I worked congressionals at another agency, and we had a 10-day turn-around requirement. :yikes:

He did it in three days. Not too shabby.

Yeah... :duh:

But... wouldn't it be more appropriate if we wanted to know the answer to that to either go look it up ourself or ask a lawyer?

Seems to me that a Senator has much more urgent issues than researching traffic laws. At the very least, I would hope that he had an aide or intern do the work of finding the answer to that question. He may have, I guess. Even though the email is signed from him, I suppose an aide might have sent it.

I take it you don't read posts and only respond on the fly. Notice it says in my post above that he had his legislative analyst conduct the research. Also, if you had followed any of the previous comments regarding this you would know that I did look it up but how I interpreted the law was different then how the police (and many posters on here) were interpretting it. Keep up Slick.

I asked him, being of the body and chairman of the committee that makes our laws what the intent of that section of law was and he responded to that directly and with confirmation from the Attorney General.

You do realize that the taste in your mouth is caused by placing your foot there, don't you?
