People beliefs

I believe it is wrong to judge someone on their beliefs. Everyone has their point of views which is good. I just can't stand it when people say that one person is stupid for being a Jewish or Catholic Christian or even Atheism.Isn't wrong in some religions to judge people? Are you truly your religion even if you don't believe in all of it? Can you pick what parts to believe and not believe?

Same thoughts here. I can not understand how someone can truly call themselves a Christian and still judge others. We are not to judge other people. I can fully understand how some people feel about religion because people who say they are great Christians are actually the biggest hypocrites that ever walked.

Religion is all about judgment. I have an old friend who is a fundie Christian. I said to him one time, "But Jesus said you're not supposed to judge. Judge not, lest ye be judged..." He replied, "No, in fact you are supposed to judge..."

"Those who indulge in sexual sin, who are idol worshipers, adulterers, male prostitutes, homosexuals, thieves, greedy people, drunkards, abusers and swindlers--none of these will have a share in the Kingdom of God."
1 Corinthians 6:9-10

"Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment."
John 7:24

"Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit."
Matthew 12:33

"I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them"
Romans 16:17

"Expel the wicked man from among you."
1 Corinthians 5:12

There are more, but you get the gist.

I have had a lot of people mainly family who hate that i am atheist. They are all catholics. Which is fine by me. I still love them the same. Some put me down for it. That to me is wrong. They also push their beliefs on me, which i can't stand. It's one thing to inform me (teach me) about their believes but to tell me shove it down my throat is another. I am open to learn about other beliefs. I will always believe what i believe. It is nice to learn something new.

I've always viewed a difference between judging and discerning. Judging would be to condemn someone to hell because of [insert subjective offense here] and such judging usually makes one a hypocrite of some sort for nobody is perfect. Discerning is one of those necessary things we have to do to get along in life or live with our own conscience, which is also judging but of a different caliber.

Can't judge someone because of their beliefs or disbeliefs. I have alot of friends that don't believe in God. Not my place to judge them for that. They are good people and that's all that matters to me. I can't quote the Bible, but I do remember a few lines, "Judge not lest ye be judged more harshly."

I have always considered the admonition to "judge not" to be more about the intent of the person, not so much the objective action. Only God knows the heart.

Well, your friend is wrong . First of I would contend that what most Christians do (just like everyone else) is make judgments, not judge. There is a difference. I say most because I know there are folks that judge others as though they could decide their fate. When I see someone breaking the law or smoking  or something else I disagree with I make a judgment solely based on what I wouldn't do. My wish is that they wouldn't do it too but I certainly have no desire to place some sort of condemnation on them. There are appropriate people or things to place these sorts of judgments on folks. Someone that breaks the law, the law will judge them. Someone that smokes, nature will judge them. But a Christian should always make judgments in a manner that teaching them how they would not do things.

Don't you have to 'judge' to make a 'judgement' to some extent though?

Making a judgment is coming to a conclusion; providing an answer to yourself. In the context of this discussion when someone makes a judgment it is to teach them something. When you judge someone it serves the purpose of condemnation. I do not condemn smokers for their behavior. It's not my place. But I do make a judgment (come to a conclusion) that this is not something I want to do.

Are you truly your religion even if you don't believe in all of it?

The name of the religious institution that one goes to is simply a stepping stone towards ones own religion. From there you take your own sense of beliefs and mold your own "religion."

So to answer your question "Are you truly your religion...?" The answer is simply "yes" as much as your thoughts are your thoughts.
