I stopped reading around page 6, so forgive me if someone addressed this already.
As of page 5, many were questioning why God would allow His children to suffer. But, can anyone turn the focus off of the suffering and onto all of the beauty and love we are given in this life?
Theologically speaking, we are in an exile in this life. We've been banished from paradise (and we do that in our human relationships, too, so it makes good/just sense). So, if we think of it from that POV, I think it is a good and gracious and loving God who gives us such a pleasant exile. We have people to love, we have lots of things to enjoy. Yes, suffering is a part of our existence, and even more a part of life for (let's say) 3rd world countries.
Some times in history see more suffering than others, but good can come out of that for humanity as a whole. We are one family, and if we learn to be more loving towards others based on lessons from history, that is a good thing.
To the loss of babies, like the OP was questioning. There is no way it makes sense to any of us (and obviously this next part pre-supposes a belief in God), but God tells us that He is pleased with our faith, not with our understanding. Faith in God gives the parents hope that their baby is now healed, and that they will be with him again someday. Atheism means they have said good bye forever. So, there is hope amidst the suffering for us.
Living for God is not just a "cover my butt" lifestyle, although I believe that is fine with Him because of the aforementioned faith that pleases Him. God's ways make our lives here more fulfilling and there is less suffering when we follow the path He's set forth.
I think a thread on suffering is a good idea.
