Maybe I am wrong, but my husband told me that one reason they are looking into civil rights violations is because of "due process not being followed" Is this right or wrong?
If that were all it was, it'd be the ACLU chiming in. They are for the rights of all criminals, regardless of race.

Maybe there is a way that Findley's family can sue White's family and anything they win from their suit will go to the officer's family.

But see, there's a flaw.

White was a criminal awaiting trial.. he was killed while awaiting trial and in so 'denied his civil rights'. That's a multi-million dollar award just waiting to happen

Findley, on the other hand, was a cop on duty, he hasn't been denied anything, or at least not his civil rights. He wasn't awaiting trial for murder just waiting for the end of his shift. That's worth whatever his county life insurance was good for, and any owed pay, and MAYBE the cost of a funeral.

Nothing his family can sue anyone for, whereas White's family has the county Sherrif, the Correctional Facilitiy, the County, the State.. They have ALL kinds of people they can sue.

Now White's family maybe able to sue Findley's family for the proceeds of his life insurance and his owed backpay too, yanno since it was Findley's dying that led to their child getting arrested and being denied his civil rights.

White was 19 which means his family is not responsible for his action so, unfortunately, the Findleys would have a hard time suing.

They can sue for wrongful death, just like the thugs family can.

What makes you think she's white?

I have no idea whether "she"s white, black, yellow, brown, red, male, female, nada...That wasn't the first comment about how it was gonna end up about racism, just the comment I quoted, there were many before that. Whether she's white or not isn't the issue for me, and maybe the people who are always on that tip aren't white...but I bet they ain't black either.

Yeah, same with a criminal, #######.
Way to add to the conversation

Gotcha :yay: See, and to me, that will (unfortunately) not allow his family to sue for wrongful death. It was his job, and he was aware of the risks every time he put on that badge.

...so, in your view, suing for wrongful death is one thing, suing because your husband was...run over and dragged to his death is...what to expect at work?

Are you and Andy in a stupid contest or something? The two of you have really been coming up with some total window licker statements lately. More than usual, even.

how is everyone disagreeing?!?! That is like saying a firefighter shouldn't expect the chance to die when he enters a building.

Ya'll are seriously riding the :shortbus: today and pawning it off on me. It is his JOB to put his life on the line to protect other citizens.

I think all this talk of suing is insulting to the family of the officer killed. How is that going to bring back dad?
