Which leads to another question...

How can she afford to go on a cruise EVERY YEAR??
A cruise is no different than a vacation to say, Disney, or possibly renting a condo for a week in OBX. Most individuals/families take a vacation every year. This was hers.

No kidding. 7th grade, book report on Pocahantas. Read the book then paint a "picture report" on the t-shirt.

Oh, wait. It gets better. She painted a picture of Capt Smith and Pocahontas on the t-shirt. A tree in the back ground, a few shoots of grass, a sun. She got an "A". Really.

I have to agree with you here. That does seem a bit silly for middle school.

Just a bit? This is the sort of thing I've been dealing with for 12 years. In order to get my child educated not only have I had to take up the slack and teach her at home, I've had to put a boot up her teachers asses to get them to do their job.

I have no problem with taking a cruise, and as far as affordability maybe her spouse, or significant other, is a computer scientist or sumpin like that.. What did bother me is she's supposed to be educated, and would think that she would know how to plan ahead, that if she wants to go for a cruise then fine, she should take her cruise duing one of the 13 weeks you have off each year..

Unless you smile at me, then I'll agree with what you said..

Her husband is a teacher at Chopticon, I believe.

I have problems with a few teachers, but most are firly good at what they do. My daughter has a teacher that apparently can't do simple math, to make things easy on him EVERYTHING is worth 100 points. Homework assignment, 100 points, test 100 points, final 100 points.. She missed ONE homework assignment, and it dropped her grade from an A to a C..

Then my son, who is the nicest kid you'll ever meet (doesn't get that from me), he's in some special ed classes. He takes chorus in middle school, and has to miss Friday's class to attend reading class, so the teacher deducts points from him for missing class every Friday. He can't get anymore then a C. Now understand this poor guy is special ed, has always had trouble with school and it's hard for him to stay motivated. Last semester he would have made honor roll for the first time ever, A in Math, A in Science, B in Reading, B in English C IN CHORUS knocks him off of the honor roll. THAT was devastating to him.

THIS semester my boy comes through again.. and so does his chorus teacher. THere's the C as Expected, but there's a congratulation on making the honor roll sticker too.. He KICKED BUTT.. now I want to go and kick his chorus Teachers butt, I mean, he's a CHORUS teacher.. how hard could THAT be??

I would take that up with the school administrators. He can't be punished for a special ed requirement. If so, they are breaking the law. Tell them to stick that in their pipe and smoke it. Request the grade be changed to fit the rest of his attendance.

Or better yet, since she wanted it to take it right before Thanksgiving, do it at Christmas instead when she's on holiday break.

I really don't care about this teacher's vacation plans or where she's getting the money to finance it. The fact is that you have to put in for vacation and it can be denied. That's a term of employment and it should be honored.

I do wonder, however, what all this picketing and protesting when we don't get our way teaches our children.

I'm lucky if I can manage to do that every three years. Most people I know don't do a major trip except every few years.

It teaches them to get what they want, all they have to do is throw a tantrum.
