Thinking, if I had a two dogs, which one would I rather have instinctively attack my child.. who knows why.. a smell, a sudden movement.. does it matter?

When instincts kick in and training departs, I'd rather have to control a minpin than a pit.. and I'd much rather take my child in for stitches from a minpin then a casket from a pit.

And don't say it doesn't happen, it happens ALL the time with ALL breeds of dogs.. Instinct takes over, maybe just for a couple of seconds, maybe for days on end, bottom line is, what do you do when it happens? What are the results when it happens to the dog in your home?

Not worth the effort. This idiot will crawl back under his rock and go back to slippin' his dog the bone before long. These pitbull humpers are all the same...

Ya know I recently bought some cute ponies for my kids and when the vet came out to give shots and a check up I told him what had happened with the poor goats who are now gone from our land. This vet actually said he wished that Texas would ban the damn things! I was surprised to hear that coming from a vet but he told me every year he sees an increase in the amount of animals he has to either patch up or put down due to these kind of attacks.

Is this a new trend? I was not aware of this new underground pit bull bestiality movement.

ok so knew as soon as i started reading that long post a few posts ago that we were dealing with a pit owner...and he is right to defend the breed he owns as i would about my dogs....but pits have such a stigma attached to them, and rightly so in some cases because of some things such as this that have happened, that he obviously doesn't understand why people see them as such a threat.

I have met nice pits and i have met mean ones, the fact remains to be seen tho that I think most people would rather deal with a mean "other breed of a dog" than a mean pit, they can kill so easily, it's what they have been bred for, it's in their blood and in their mind. I know someone who has recently spent over $8000 in vets bils because their bulldog was malled by a pit, now that pit could have easily killed the bulldog if it wanted to!

I'm not saying chiahuahua's can't be mean, or snauzer's, or labs or anything like that, but there is a fear that is associated with the pit bull breed. The people you have to thank for that are the people who do things like, let their dog run at large and cause trouble, let their dog become agressive and not deal with it, don't adequately socialize the dog to different dogs, people and situations, the people that have bred the pit bull to be a dog fighting dog, and so on.... I also don't think that anyone can say "if my dog were running at large it wouldn't be any trouble" it's either going to be trouble for you, for what the dog does, or trouble for the dog, as he may get hit by a car and die, or someone may shoot it, poison it, someone may steal it and keep it for their own, NO Dog owner should let their animal run at large, this is very irresponsible and that's my personal opinion.

the owner said "she is such a sweet dog" and actually appeared mystified over the event..

thats what just about every owner always says after a dog attack - just like after a school shooting the parents say "he was such a good quiet kid" - or after a work place shooting - "he was always so quiet and kept to himself"

(and it doesn't just apply to pit bulls, they just tend to do more damage when they do attack vs smaller dogs)

one of the biggest problems with pitbulls is that they are much more subtle about having aggressive tendancies than many other breeds, their outward signs can be less noticable so many owners that don't pay enough attention or are ignorant to that fact will never take the time to train it out of them, or heaven forbit that for a particular dog its not possible have them put down for everyones safety and for the good of the breed as a whole. there are many very good non-aggressive pits, the difficulting is getting people to really recognize which ones are really safe to have around kids/animals/or even adults vs the ones that are ticking timebombs (and again that applies to almost any dog, pits are just a bit tricker to weed out the timebombs)

as for letting dogs roam free. no owner should ever let that happen if not for the safety of the public, then for the safety of their own dog. there are some sick people out there that shoot animals for fun, and i don't mean legitimate hunters, i mean the wackos. if a strange dog wanders onto my property and gives any sign of being a threat to my family/pets then it will have one chance to turn and run or be put down by a 12 guage or a 9mm.

the best form of training isn't just behavior modification. its changing how the dog views situations so that it doesn't feel the urge to chase that biker/jogger/car/rabbit/child rather than just training them to not act on the desire.

granted its not easy and won't work on all dogs. don't get me wrong i love animals, but to keep an individual animal around that has proven to have aggressive tendancies and can not be "trained" out should be put down to make room for all the potentially great dogs that are non-aggressive but get put down every day in shelters. its nothing personal, its just for the greater good of the species. as well as for the benefit of the publics view of them.

it takes a great deal of responsability on the part of the breeders, the owners, the shelters, and the rescues in order to do that successfuly though, and i just don't see it every happening like is necessary.

Was this a English Bulldog and did she take it to a hydro baric chamber?

Sonsie

The mighty Al-Sonsie!

The 1 1/2-year-old pit bull, described by his owners as sweet and submissive, lived here under a roof of wooden pallets and played with the children of the house.

Until he killed Pablo.

Wednesday night, according to witnesses, Greco flew into a frenzied rage stoked by a passing dog and tackled 5-year-old Pablo Lopez, fatally mauling him in a powerful attack.

Thursday afternoon, Greco was Jekyll once again, wagging hopefully at a visitor to his quarantine kennel

BIG surprise to the owner as always
