You're biased. I've been attacked by a German Pincher so I don't care for them. Doesn't make my bias right. The dogs that attacked your horse were the product of irresponsible owners. How do you know your horse was sleeping? Proof the dogs in question were pits?

The American Temperament Test Society, Inc. (ATTS) breed statistics as of December 2005 show an 83.5% passing rate for the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier and an 84.7% passing rate for the Staffordshire bull terrier, as compared to an 81.2% average pass rate for all dog breeds.

I'm not biased and I realize very well that the owners were responsible for the damaged caused by their Pitbulls. I've never really taken a stance against or for Pitbulls, they just have never been a breed of dog that I personally care for, doesn't mean I hate them as a breed.

At 1am and having my horse since she was a baby, this year she would turn 6, she sleeps at that time typically and in the prone position. Even if she was awaken at that time I can guarantee you the attack was unprovoked. Does it matter if she was asleep or not when attacked?

The owners and the animal control and police officer identified the one as a Pitbull then other as a Pit-mix. Guess they have the proof.

You have clearly taken a stance against the breed due to your unfortunate experience. You should be mad at the idiot owners. ANYONE who lets a dog much less dogs (who are pack animals) roam shouldn't have them.

The only reason I asked if the horse was sleeping is because you can not be 100% sure that the attack was unprovoked. You assume based on your knowledge of your horse but you can't be certain.

Blame the deed not the breed. I worked with an idiot years ago that had rotties that always got out of her yard and several times they killed the neighbors goats. Read, several times. :duh: What happened to your horse is terrible and I do feel for you. The fact of the matter is the blame is soley upon the shoulders of the owners of the dogs, not the dogs.

Believe me, my anger is towards the owner, the dogs are just an unfortunate product of their stupidity. Horses are prey animals by nature, she herself is no bigger then a large dog and I can guarantee you she never would provoke as it's not how they think and nor is it her nature.

Sorry, but this is a stupid statement. What the hell does it matter if her horse was sleeping, running around the pasture, or doing handstands? The horse was in ITS pasture. The dogs were on HER property. Even if the horse was sticking out its tongue and making fun of the stupid dogs, the dogs had NO RIGHT to be on HER PROPERTY. I realize that the dogs don't know that, and it is the owner's responsibility to properly restrain their dogs. And sorry, but no horse would 'provoke' an attack by dogs.

And I just want to add that any dog, regardless of breed, can attack livestock. In fact, pet dogs do more damage to livestock than coyotes or wolves do. Pets get in the field and have fun...just ripping away at the animals...they do it for fun, and it's worse if there is more than 1 dog. Wolves and coyotes kill for food....they'll kill one or two and eat them.

Just wanted to add that. Not sure why, but it's Friday and my brain is fried.

Maybe they weren't able to read the "No Trespassing" sign.

Maybe her horse shoulda peed on the fenceline...

What I meant was, it's not like the horse escaped from the pasture and then got attacked...

I agrea all the blame is on the owners. I don't think there is a such thing as a bad breed. It is all how you raise the dogs. I have had german shepards, rots, labs, Akita. None of my dogs ever bit anyone.

There was one exeption when I was a kid and some stranger walked into the house and got bit.

Obviously you don't because everything you wrote before that was retarded. And, I've worked in a vets office and seen many a dog that have been kicked by a horse. So to claim that a horse would never do anything to provoke an attack is absurd.

Apparently you missed the part where I said it was the owners of the dogs that should be held responsible. :yay:

And here I thought I had EXCELLENT parents... but I guess not, they used to leave my sister and I home alone with a 30lb American Eskimo...

How did we ever survive
I'm sure you have excellent parents..however I think that even excellent parents make mistakes and leaving any child any age unattended with an animal is not a good idea.
