Anyone use them? What are the advantages/disadvantages?
My parents have suggested that I switch to these this time. None of my friends have used them so I cannot get any input from them. Thanks!

I didn't use them with my first child (whose now 8) but I definitley did with the second (now 5). I thought it was much easier than having to sterilize all those bottles. I only sterilized the nipples and had to wash the bottles with the drop-ins. If I was to have another child, I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

We used both the drop in and the regular open it yourself bag liners. Hands down they beat the snot outta sterilizing bottles. Especially when you are out and about. Keep a boll of liners and a can of formula powder in the diaper bag and you are good to go while away from home. :yay:

I never used a bottle until my 4th child came along and decided she was going to bite me often!! I pumped and used them and loved them. Easy to get in bottles, and you can squeeze the air out of them.

:yay: I used these and highly recommend them. It was especially easy when traveling anywhere. You can buy the powdered formula and just carry the bottle with water in it and add the powder when the baby is ready to eat. It's so much easier to clean just the nipples and rings and wash the bottles in soapy water. If you have a dishwasher, it will sterlize the nipples after you hand wash them and just run them through the drying cycle.

Thanks everyone. I just found out that alot of the generic brands make the drop ins! This will make life a little easier because the cost of formula and diapers is ridiculous. Even the generic brands!

Sterilizing bottles??

Why??

Seems like a LOT of overkill to me..

If a woman breastfeeds, should she sterilize her nipples for ten minutes in boiling water before letting the baby at em??

Happy Camper!
I used them when I had T (almost 9 years ago), since he had reflux they were better for him b/c I was able to squeeze out all the air from the bottle before feeding it to him.

My baby is 6 months, and I've used the platex drop in's for just about the entire time! Love them, and I buy the generic brands from Walmart and McKay's. (I like McKay's better). Saves me a lot of time on bottles, and she had acid reflux when she was smaller, so it helped a little with that. I give them :yay: :yay:

I just used regular bottles and certainly never sterilized them. I used the dishwasher and everything was fine for both kids.

My nephew tended to get really gassy and my SIL used them to get any extra air out of the bottle that she could. Not sure if it really helped, but she felt like it did. I used the Nuk brand nipples after I was done b'feeding and the little air vent really seemed to help.

I would guess washing the bottles in a dishwasher was ok. I imagine the water gets pretty hot to kill germs. Not sure tap water would be hot enough on it's own and even if it was I certainly wouldn't put my hands in there, lol.

Hell yeah it does. Ever grab a plate out of the dishwasher while it is still in the heat dry cycle? :yikes:

What germs are you trying to kill??

Do you store your bottles in a manure pile??

My point being, baby bottles are generally not in contact with any more germs than our eating utensils.. (if you go out to eat, the bottle is probably a LOT cleaner than your fork or knife).. Why should the baby bottle warrant being cleaned anymore than what you use to eat with? If handwashing with a sink full of soapy water is good enough for your plate and utensils, it should be good enough for your babies bottles.

If you were trying to grow a baby in a petri dish, MAYBE I could see sterilizing everything, but you're trying to raise a baby in a world full of germs and viruses, that no matter what you do he's going to come in contact with..

If you sterilize everything he won't build up any immunities, and will likely be more sick than if you didn't..

How do you sterilize the floor and rugs he crawls around on? Do you sterilize all his toys, ratlles, blankets and bedding every day?

Just my opinion. I think society as whole makes us out to be bad parents if we don't do it... but why should we?

Ok, I don't get that anal with sterilizing floors, rugs etc.. I'm sure no matter what I or anyone else says on here you'll come back with some comment on how everything else can be "dirty" but not bottles. Anyways, I keep my house clean, always make sure my kids wash their hands after playing indoors or out. I'm not one of those moms who are paranoid about germs. Hell, I probably ate my fair share of dirt, glue etc and I'm still alive. Maybe "they" believe that by sterilizing the bottles it will kill anything left that maybe you didn't get? JMO

Football Mom!!!
I used them with both my kids. When the drop-ins came out it was just that much better. With my second child I bought the liners at BJ's and they were just the same as the Playtex liners. I can't say that they were better than other bottles because they are the only ones that I have experience with, but I would use them again for sure!

I never used them but reading some of these comments I would use them b/c it would be easier than sterilizing all of those bottles. I never knew what they were before reading this.

Did you ever try these? We've been using them for a couple of weeks and we really like them. Baby Speedy likes them too. :yay:
