Watch out for the deer people~!!!!! Those furry buggers are freakin' nuts right now~~!!

My guy had three run out in front of him Saturday and it was the scariest thing I've ever had to watch. He had no where to go, so he laid the bike down and rolled away from it. I've never actually witnessed a bike accident and I never want to again:bawl:

:huggy: hope he is ok :huggy:

My honda is in the shop due to a huge buck that decided to run out of the trees while I was going 55 on rt 301. He ran into the front side flipped into the air and his horns came through the windshield while the rest of his body banged down the side of my car, thank god none of my kids were in the car. It is over $4,000 in damage :faint:

His pride hurts worse than anything. He does have a sore hip and a badly scraped knee. The chaps he bought last week sure came in handy, but I gotta sew the strap back on one side.
Overall, I give his tuck and roll an 8.5:yay:

I hit a pack of 5 one night up by Summerseat Sanctuary. I still have the huge dent in the side:ohwell:

Not being mean, but it sounds like he might want to sign up for the MSF experienced rider course. I have never been in a position where "laying it down" was a good idea.

I didn't mean it to sound like he did it intentionally. No not at all. He would have wrecked regardless. He and I have recounted the accident several times and there were just too many deer and no space to avoid them. I was glad he didn't get tangled up around the bike or hit a pole because I worry so much about head injuries on bikes and he was glad I don't tailgate. He kept saying that he's glad I didn't run him over, that would have hurt.

I'm going to a funeral tomorrow for someone who hit a deer on a motorcycle. He hurt his head and he never recovered from it. Now, I've got a friend who ripped his arm off and had it reattached, another who lost a leg and they both still ride. I'm terrified of head injuries. My cousin was killed on a moped because the car plowed him over and smashed his head.

I've seen people live through some crazy stuff, but a brain injury scares me to death.

I'm so sorry! I'm glad he came out of it so well off compared to others you know. I can only imagine how it felt to watch that!!! :frown: It's reminders like this that get to me wear my chaps more often!!! I tend to get lazy at times...

I was riding behind hubby a few months ago and watched a deer leap across the road right in front of him!!!! Fortunately, he did have time to react....he locked up brakes and slid some, but avoided the buck....WHEW!

That's interesting....as you know, I am a new rider this year, so I have NO EXPERIENCE with this personally....but in my MSF course, they taught us how to lay a bike down when needed

Or, was I too busy watching the hunks in my class and not catching what they were really saying :lmao:

CheriAnn, did the MSF instructor describe the circumstances where a rider would "need" to lay a bike down???

I'd like to know who your instructor was.. I don't think that's part of the approved course.

Rubber tires stop a LOT quicker then skin, leather or chrome, and you maintain some control.. where once your tires are no longer beneath you you have NO control.

Beezle.. I hope, with your concern for safety and fear brain trauma, that your BF has spent GOOD money on a good helmet. Thankfully he was wearing some decent leather. (oops)

I seem to remember the extreme cases like appraoching a suddenly stopped vehicle at a speed too fast for stopping in time....honestly, I do remember them talking about emergency situations where you can't avoid a collision and laying the bike down instead of t-boning or rear ending a vehicle.....

Where did you take your course? I took mine at CSM and they never even mentioned laying the bike down.....more like they preached how to avoid laying the bike down.

Who was your instructor?
