We are close to you so you may be next! Unless a certain person has called them a dozen times a day complaining

I'm closer to Chingville and unless a miracle happened between the time I went through around 6 and now, I don't expect power until tomorrow at the soonest. Still lots of broken poles and downed power lines on Medleys Neck, Whirlwind, and Chingville Roads. But several crews were out there working and saw several poles waiting to go up. (Keep it clean, folks! )

And #####ing to SMECO solves nothing. They can't work any faster than they are so just wait patiently - all in due time.

Got ours back around 1:30 pm today. Came on as soon as the wife filled the little genny we borrowed. Since we got the juice back she decided she had to turn on EVERY light on the house.

Well, time to shut down power to the homestead and call it a night.

Maybe tomorrow I won't have to watch TV by candlelight......

:yeahthat: I'm ON Medley's Neck Road and still am without power but crews are out there working their butts off to repair the extensive damage along the road, which I've seen first hand. Hats off to them and the extremely long hours they are putting in. :yay:

Sorry for the rant. Just get so tired of losing power every time a hard wind blows and then have to wait 3 days to get it back on again.

I know they are doing their best to fix us all. And no, I haven't called Smeco yet. I'm sure the neighbors already have, and I don't have time during the day.

I get up at 4:30am for work, so maybe they'll get to it by tomorrow sometime.

My folks had the same problem as you for a long time. They kept at it when asking SMECO to fix the problem. They did their asking while line crews were out to repair the lines, and had the line crews forward their recommendations up the chain. Not only did they ask during emergencies, they asked in quiet times also. Persistence pays off, pissing folks off does not.

SMECO Website they figure out the total number of people without power by the people that call in. And figure from there they figure out how many people to put to work.and call in from out of state to get everyone fixed.

If you don't call in you aren't counted, and if enough people don't call in they won't hire quite enough people to get your power back on, so instead of being out for a day or two you might be out for a week or two.

Land of the lost
Rumor is that SMECO is gonna run out by late tonight. The trucks are on the way though.

LOL? A hard wind? This was a hurricane where lots of trees ended up on lines. All over! This wasn't some regular wind from a thunderstorm. Also if it was just a hard wind it wouldn't be out for 3 days. Quit talking out your ass... Just because your neighbors might have doesn't mean anything, you should do it as well. Your neighbors might already have power...

Again, I'm sorry for the rant and I should have known better than to say anything on this forum. I'm sure Smeco is doing what they do as fast as they can BUT It is people with replies like that 'talking out my ass' remark that make me rarely read, moreless reply to anything you all say on these forums. You obviously have your own opinions and don't believe in walking in someone else's shoes before you insult them. I pray you don't have the problems with Smeco service that I've had over the past 11 years with the days-long power outages 3 or 4 times every year over, yes, a hard wind and some rain. The nice letters I've written to them, speaking with the workman about the problem have all been in vain. But since you folks would rather insult me, I hope you feel better.

Have a nice day.

Hopefully you've toured the entire area around Medley's Neck Road, including connectors Whirlwind and Chingville Roads, and have actually seen what they're up against with approximately a dozen or more poles totally sheared off, lines shredded and tons of trees to remove. From Whirlwind to Chingville Road was pretty much a disaster area - this hurricane was as bad if not worse than Isabel hitting in '03. I was without power for 5 days then and was grateful it wasn't much longer.

And it's total :bs: you don't have time to make a 5 minute call to SMECO about your power outage "during the day." The phone line is up 24/7 and the people on the other line are most helpful and pleasant, especially considering the volume of calls and long hours they have been working. Did you try to call tonight? I would bet dollars to donuts you didn't.

If you're "tired of losing power every time a hard wind blows and then have to wait 3 days to get it back on again" then why aren't YOU raising a ruckus about that? Again, I think that's more than a bit of :drama: on your part but if in fact that happened to me, you better bet your sweet bippy I'd be raising the roof instead of going :jameo: about it on a forum. JMHO for whatever it's worth.

Did you see all the downed lines and screwed up poles by you on Rt 5? That's going to take awhile to fix.

You bet I did and it is indeed a mess.

Crews showed up yesterday afternoon and they had an army working on it. Still not on as of 0530 this morning, but I know they are doing what they can and will get us back online as soon as they are able.

No doubt in my mind that they are working their hind parts off.

:edit: just (0730) got a call from a buddy and they have half a dozen trucks with and matching crews working it already this morning. Today could be a very good day. :yahoo:

What?!
I got a phone call from smeco last night around 8:00 saying the power had been restored in my area. I wasn't home at the time and I got all excited over nothing :lmao: Guess they called the wrong number because my neighborhood is still dark. I did noticed some of Kingston Creek has power, so they are getting close :crossingfingers:

I understand that a lot of folks are getting the same calls that turn out to be false. Glitch in their system I guess. Something they can work out after all this mess is over.

That's a mean glitch  I fully expected and prepared to be w/o power for a week. So if it happens to come back on today, that would amazing!

Day 47. Still no electric. Cheetos supplies getting low. I tried to catch a squirrel to roast it on the BBQ, but it bit me. I now have gangrene and may lose a little toe. We've been promised that reinforcements will arrive soon, but we wait. In the meantime, we'll just have to be patient and watch reruns of Oprah.
