That's why I asked Chasey what meds she was taking. I can see them wanting to see you more often if you have a medical condition.

Oh I have a medical condition and my doctor gives me any drug I want. No seriously, I have one that I take twice a day and I don't think it has an expiration. If it does, I'll just make a phone call and get another one. For serious pain killers, she writes me a physical prescription because she has discovered it's easier to get them filled with a written script. But those are usually good for several months. And I can again make a phone call and she'll leave me a script for pick-up without forcing me to have an actual appointment. But I agree with SoMDGirl, as I think it depends what you are being treated for as to how the doctors respond. I can see a need for docs to see you if you are on anti-anxiety meds or blood pressure problems.

Every damn day I have to take a fist full of pills that would make a crankhead cringe.

Actually it's not that bad any more. A couple years ago during my ... sabbatical ... I had to take a huge number of pills. Now I'm down to 5 if you count aspirin. Still a big pain in the ass though.

I didn't think about that but what I was more thinking of is Pushrod's thread and ETC's response, how they only give you a limited supply and then you have to make a Dr visit for more. Talk about a racket.

My doctor is awesome. She gives me a year's supply of my prescription medication and tells me to come back in a year for blood work and another prescription.

Depends on what meds are being prescribed. I take cholesterol meds, and they can cause liver/kidney issues. Blood samples need to be taken every 3 months to make sure there are no side effects.

It's my understanding that narcotics cannot be phoned/faxed/emailed in. They must be hand carried.

I am so very blessed
I take a prescription Vitamin D pill every week, and a daily prescription thyroid pill, plus an occassional OTC pill(s) for headaches, fevers, etc.

I feel I'm pretty healthy otherwise, though.

Personal question: is that BC or something else? Because you're a young healthy non-smoker, there's no reason why they'd want to keep tabs on your BC pills (I wouldn't think, but then I'm old school and what the hell do I know - I haven't used BC in 26 years).

I don't take BC pills. When I did, my doctor would prescribe me medication 6 months to a year at a time. My anxiety causes me to have high BP sometimes, so if I got a bad reading at one appointment, I'd have to go back in 6 months instead of a year.

My regular physician (CRNP actually) prescribes me maintenance medication (not controlled) for a year at a time.

I think this is why most of our leaders do NOT want to take even one step towards examining this part of Adam Lanza, Shui, Loughner or any other psycho killer including Harris and Kleybold whose medial records are still sealed; most of our leaders are gobbling down the skittles by the handful for their various 'ailments' and they know damn well they are way too ####ed up, all the time, to be having any sharp objects lying around let alone firearms and don't want us to know it.

I mean, come one. Every Happy Pill on TV comes with disclaimers that talk about 'thoughts' of suicide, mood swings, anger issues and various and sundry warnings that you might be worse off if you take this crap.

Don't muck up my thread with politics or I'ma smack you one. I'm not talking specifically about anti-depressants, and cholesterol meds don't make you psycho. This is about general health care, not nutjobs.

My bad. Seems I misread the 'are you on prescription medications' part.

My grandfather died of his third or fourth heart attack in his early 50's and my mom had a stroke around 60, so I take this seriously. High BP and high triglycerides run in the family.

Since I lost weight I could probably be taken off what I do take, but I trust my doctor and will do what he says. Besides, what I do take is relatively benign so I'm not worried about it.

Same here. My Granddaddy passed back in '76 @ 56 of his third heart attack.
he was one of those that said, "I'm NOT living the rest of my life taking pills; and I'm gonna eat what I wanna eat." He loved all the bad stuff.

My Grampa, passed in '03 @ 89. He was somewhat of a "health nut" but still had high B.P.. So, while it is better to be more mindful of what you eat, and how much you eat, when it's your time.....

I take Lavalo, Altace & Metformin and go in every 3 months. I get the scripts written for (1) 3 month period. Saves me $$ and time.

Had high BP and high triglycerides and am borderline diabetic.
