Wonder how many folks self-medicate (some OTC no longer need a script) or take other's meds? :eyebrow:

Oh I have a medical condition and my doctor gives me any drug I want. No seriously, I have one that I take twice a day and I don't think it has an expiration. If it does, I'll just make a phone call and get another one. For serious pain killers, she writes me a physical prescription because she has discovered it's easier to get them filled with a written script. But those are usually good for several months. And I can again make a phone call and she'll leave me a script for pick-up without forcing me to have an actual appointment. But I agree with SoMDGirl, as I think it depends what you are being treated for as to how the doctors respond. I can see a need for docs to see you if you are on anti-anxiety meds or blood pressure problems.

I go to the doc roughly every six months for bloodwork. At that time, I'm also given a script for my meds. The thing that yanks my chain is, I have to show up for an appointment to get a refill. That's the only reason I have to go to the office. There's no "check-up" per se; the Doc doesn't phone them in all the time. I think that particular procedure has changed though.

Either of you two my neighbor? I'd have killed for some tums last night about 12 when the suberbowl food kicked in real good.

It was not a good feeling remembering I didn't have any antiacid in the house because I do not use it very often. :cds:
Baking Soda disolved in water will help when in a pinch.

Vicoden can be called in, but Percocet can not. Hard Copies needed for that.

Class 1 and 2 narcotics have to have a written prescription (Percocet, Oxycontin, Morphine). You cannot get refills on these. Class 3 and above can be called in with refills(Vicodin, Ambien, Xanax)

I have never taken prescription pain medication in my life. Not even after surgery. The only scrip I've ever had was for antibiotics on the rare occasion I get sick enough to need one.

DON'T GO!!!

I was perfectly healthy until I went and suddenly I had high BP, cholesterol and am border line diabetic! Doctors are bad for your health!

This was my grandmother's opinion. Doctor's are in business to take care of sick people, so why would they make them well? It should be noted that she lived to be 97 and had no medical problems until she was 94 and fell which resulted in a doctor's visit. :coffee:

I am also surprised how much better my health has gotten when I quit seeing doctors. :yay:

I had a client back in the day that was ill with a zillion different things and his doc had him on a bunch of pills, but he felt like crap all the time. One day he threw them all away and said that dying was better than living like that, and don't you know that within a couple of days he was feeling terrific. I couldn't believe when I saw him - he was a totally different person.

off the shelf
I went in for my DOT physical a couple years ago and the dr "had" to do all these test first....after 4 vistits, I finally got my DOT card and he said I had an issue with my thyroid(probably from me telling him my family history)....he put me on a low dose of thyroid meds(which my insurance did not cover for some reason) and told me that it would make me feel a lot better and I would start losing the 30lbs that I had gained over the previous 2 years.....I was on a that thyroid medication about 3 months and did not lose any weight and felt even worse than I did before I went to him...

The meds went in the trash and I went to another dr that told me my levels were fine and to get off my ass (exact words)....that is the only thing I've taken, to include OTC meds, in about 30 years

I voted that I don't take any meds but now I realize that's not entirely true.

I'm 30 and have the birth control implant in my arm...

This ^ and I wonder how many folks could come off half or most or even all these meds if they fixed their diet. Type 2 diabetes- almost always diet related. Heart disease (high blood pressure and cholesterol issues) same.

Oh sure modern medicine is amazing and sometimes a literal life saver. However, often its a multi million dollar business with no cure in sight- just more visits, bills and pills. A cycles that lines pockets yet never makes the patient well again and off the damn pills.

Im in my 40s and pray I stay pill free as long as I can.
