I'm still listening, but my take is this: she got to Africa and discovered she's no longer part of the protected class. Her status as a historically, chronically, systemically oppressed victim in the US means absolutely zip in other countries in the world, and especially on the continent of Africa. That's because, to the best of my understanding,
Basically she is being taken advantage of as a Rich American ... I don't know where she is, but they saw her coming a mile away my friend in Kenya says you can live very nicely like a top 10% on $ 3000 a month ...
this woman is being charged $ 100 bucks a day for rent - an apt with NO AC, no Hot water [ true there is NO central hot water in most apt the only running hot water is at the shower head ] bugs everywhere .. I think she said scorpions - NO Refrigerator - yeah women go to the market EVERYDAY ... Chicken is the main staple ... I asked my friend about steaks, she said the beef would be questionable due to a lack of refrigerated handling - there are ExPat communities in Kenya - mostly Eastern Europeans and Indians - apts come furnished with a girl over 18 to tend to the apt and the owner if you catch my drift ... like Furniture in Soylant Green - she also complains about the lights being out for 14 hours
This my friends Apt, she lives on the outskirts of Nairobi .... the door under the sink is a small college dorm size fridge ... the gas stove is fed from that orange propane bottle. also you DO NOT drink the Tap Water every apt building has it's own ground water well for the showers and sinks - City water is very sketchy or unreliable - an yep the electricity can go out for hours or days - last year the transformer ate itself out in front of her apt building ..... this was diagnosed on a Wed, their version of Pepco [ run by a relative of the current president ] the workers WAITED until Sunday to do the work so they could GET OVER TIME, and kick back to their supervisor - Kenya has a 6 day work week.
Shower Head
Africans in general don't like American blacks.
Goes Both ways .. My friend in Kenya laughs at the political positions of American Blacks the utter absurdity coming across in CNN, MSNBC and so on ... My experiences doing plumbing in DC in the 90's there was an African Migrant [ at this time probably Nigerian ] who was constantly stopping up the kitchen sink line, causing water to back up in another tenants apt. I was a bit shocked to hear this elderly black woman refer to this young black girl as a ' filthy African '
PS: I'm old enough to remember adults in my youth saying "send 'em back to Africa!"
Yep I remember that in the 80's
