Anyone out there have a projection TV? I am talking the kind where you have a screen on the wall and across the room mounted on the ceiling there is a projector?

They claim the picture quality is near LCD/Plasma and the screen sizes go up in the 100 inch area for about $2K. they even have technology now that the projector doesn't have to be aligned with the screen. It can be off in a corner and still fit the screen in a perfect rectangle/size.

I don't own one, but I would imagine the bulb could get pricey. I mess with Epson projectors at work, and I beleive they cost a couple hundred bucks to replace. It is nice to play games with life size characters. :yay:

The biggest that I have seen advertised was 73". The Price was around $4K.

Friend of mine put one in his house. Can't see it during the day unless you close all the blinds.

How many lumens? I guess it's not in a theatre room or basement?

We saw...

...one at Ashley furniture recently and my new best friend and I lounged and watched the game while the women shopped. He was a painter, put a projection in his basement and no longer uses his 50-60" rear projectin anymore. Says the picture is AWESOME. What we saw was real good.

I can't find it on their web site and I don't remember the details. My point is that it seems like a viable option from what little I know.

We use those at work for presentations. Usually hooked up to a laptop, but work great when you slap a DVD in the computer. The better the resolution, the higher the price.

Where would you put it in your place Pete? Downstairs?
Upstairs, projected on the wall where the humongous, space wasting entertainment center is now.

So where are you going to put all the stuff that's on the entertainment center?
The way you have it set up now is nice and cozy.

Why don't you be our test case Pete. You buy it and tell us if it is worth it or not! That way no one else has to waste their money if the technology isn't worth having. ;)

Int eh corner out of the way. All that is in there is the surround sound crap.

I am not sure I want to risk $1600 as a test bed, but watching football on a 100 inch screen with the TV hanging on the wall does sound good.

Have a friend with a projection TV. You really want to sit back a little from it for the best picture. Think about how close your seating is to that wall. From the sofa it would be okay but the loveseat or chairs...a little iffy.

My buddy has one projecting onto a 10' screen. It's pretty nice, but it's definitely better viewing when it's dark out. I think his is an Optoma.
