They must have been older Blue Rhino tanks, but when i filled my 2 tanks up at Ace Hardware in Owings about a week ago, the guy in front of me had 3 Blue Rhino tanks refilled.

I work part-time at a place that sells Blue Rhino and also refills tanks. There are no magnetic safety valves on tanks in this area, or I'm sure I would've seen one by now. If this IS true, we also carry "super magnets" at the store, so it poses no real concern.

I don't know where steppedin#### gets his propane.

There is a safety check valve built in to the valves, but it's not magnetic, called an OPD valve It's to prevent sudden unrestricted release of gas, like if the valve was turned on full without being connected to anything. Sometimes this check valve closes if filled improperly or overfilled, leaving you with a full but useless tank. I have one like that right now, have to get it corrected. No, It's not Blue Rhino.

I did some digging and found out that the "TS II" valves were used by Rhino for only a short period of time after the new tank safety valve regs kicked in in 2002. And not all Rhino distributors used them. Rhino scrapped the hole idea after too much blowback from their refillers and from consumers.

So they are pretty much non-existent these days.

There are several discussing in other forums and other areas. Sure, yes, some places may never see these valves, if so that's great. But I've came across them once in the area. Luckily never saw it again.

I've got 2 empty 20lb propane tanks that are out of date and can't be refilled anymore. I'm also remodeling 3 bathrooms at the house, so have some porcelain fixtures to dispose of.

Is there anywhere other than the landfill to dispose of these? I've heard that old toilets and other porcelain fixtures can be recycle by being crushed and used as road material. Salvage yard does not take propane tanks or else I'd add them to my scrap metal pile.

You scrap them and the raw materials get stored in the workbench for use in building things around the settlement...wait, that's Fallout 4. Never mind; my bad.

But reading this..one would get a very different impression:

You have to be careful about the new propane cylinders. I did just that and the new blue rhino tanks now require a magnet to refill the tank. You just got to bring one with you or someone needs to know about that and use a magnet.

If you want to get rid of the propane tanks, I'll take them for my scouts to use.

Ive got a really old tank, has the old shutoff valve, think it has some propane still in it, Id give it to you now but its helping to hold the cover on the pool, I'll roll it down your driveway once the pool cover comes off.
