How do you get a puppy to stop biting. I have tried everything under the sun and nothing seems to be working do any of you have any good techniques that work?

A firm NO! and then praise when they stop. Repeat as needed. They are puppies, they bite.

yah well anything i do from petting her to talking to her she comes up and bites me and she does the same thing when I take her out on leash she gets all jumpy and starts biting after shes gone potty she starts that so now I don't give her hardly any leash and I just let her do her business then take her right back into the house. I would like to be able to take her for a nice walk and not have her start jumping and biting. Its getting a little old shes been doing it for 3 months now and shes only 5months old.

I have done the firm no I have also flipped her on her back and held her down til she calmed down (the trainer taught me this one). I have also put her in time out too and that doesn't seem to work. I think she just needs someone to run her to get rid of her energy but I can't do it as shes a 52lb dog and can pull me as of right now but when shes done growing shes going to weigh more than me. I have to get this stuff under control or I don't know what i will do once she becomes an adult.

When the puppy starts to bite, firmly grab her jowels or the side of her mouth and say no. You have to do it right away. Grabbing the jowels lets them realize they made a mistake with the mouth.I have two large breed dogs who went through this. It is extremely common, but can get annoying.

I do feed her 3x a day as a matter of fact but each time she doesn't eat much 1.5cups of food each time. We have learned here that when she has to go potty she starts biting or she will whine one of the two. She gets really mean when shes got to poop.

It would really help for you to work with a trainer so the trainer can teach you how to handle her. You need to get this under control now (like teaching her manners for walking) or else she'll be much harder to handle when she's an full grown.

Flipping dogs on their backs is a bunch of crap. She should be outgrowing the "mouthing" by now.

It sounds to me like you don't have any control over this puppy.

My recommendation would be to contact Canine Mind LLC and see if Brett can assist you. She (and her trainers) use positive reinforcement and get excellent results.

I have a 60 lb. puppy and have gone through the exact same thing. I tried everything under the sun, then somebody told me to use a squirt bottle. Everytime he went to nip, he got a squirt in the face. Low and behold, he quit biting.

Good luck!

also make sure she is getting enough exercise. Sometimes any aggressive action is a sign that the dog needs to go out and run. Is your yard fenced in so she can run freely? If not, I suggest at least 2 long walks every day.
Good luck.

A sharp NO! while putting my thumb under their tongue and pressing down, not to hurt but by putting pressure the puppy doesn't like it and realizes soon that this happens when I bite. Persistance is the key. I raised a pup and a 1 year old by myself while hubby was out to sea, never a dull moment:wink:

In My Opinion
I was once told to bite them back in the same place they bit you,, actually, that was something about a child but refusing to bite a child I figured the advice might work on a dog. then, that one day that the buddies Pit Bull jumped up and bit me in the bean sack,,,,,,,

as I remember, the dog might have yelped at first, but I have faint recollection of him winning the argument..

dont try this method.
