Not to appear naive, but it wasn't until we moved to Maryland that I realized that people actually settled arguments fist to cuff.

While I've never experienced someone actually wielding a shovel in my presence, I certainly would consider the fact that someone was not exactly happy with somone else and, perhaps, they should discuss the problem. Preferably before coming to blows.

I concur, however that is not always the most conducive solution.
