Rebates Get Green Light

I thought the part about extra money for the kids was going away.

That means...... (breaking out the visor and paper shooting calculator)

1500 + ( 300 * 3 )...

holy crap. :faint:

Looks like I'm going to get a 22 inch monitor for the new computer too.

I might even treat the kids to McDonalds for the extra boost. :yay:

When is thing supposed to go in the mail?

$600 for you, $600 for the wife, $300 per kid up to $600 = $1800. Get a 36" monitor, and skip the McNuggets.

Checks start in May. They talked about doing electronic transfers, so you might not have to wait for a check.

The legislation will provide one-time rebates of up to $600 for individuals or $1,200 for couples, plus $300 for each child. Low-income people, including retirees on Social Security and disabled veterans who pay no income taxes, would receive checks of $300.

The final bill was broader than the original package backed by Bush. The Senate added the benefits for elderly and disabled veterans, who had been left out of the House bill.

That should clear that up. It i supposed to get signed next week. When I googled "stimulus package" the #1 response was from Xinhua. :ohwell:

So is the $300 per child gone now? I remember it was originally part of the plan, but don't see it in this article.

Glad I read through because this was going to be my question. Haven't seen it mentioned in the past two days and I have never seen it mentioned outside of the married couples section of the explaination of "who gets". I'm such a details woman.

Well, that makes complete sense, seeing as how the money's really coming from China...just like alot of the money we're borrowing for everything else.

It's so tempting to spend it. :ohwell: I already said I'm going to save it...but it would be nice to get a little boat. My $600 and BF's $900....we could get a nice little fishing boat. Or a pop-up camper. :ohwell:

Or we could use that towards a down-payment of a house. Yes, that's what we should do. Save. I'll keep reminding myself.

:lmao:

I've offered my part to boost the economy. Have the treasury deposit $1 Million into my checking account. I can fly through that in less than a week if I'm being lazy about it.

Haven't heard back from them yet...so I guess the economy isn't doing that bad.
I bet you'd be more efficent in spending that $1mil than Congress would, too.

Let me set up a scenario a couple of people I know (including myself) are curious about.

Lets say someone age 18-21 is making some sort of their own income (lets say anywhere from 15k-20k a year, for an example), but they're living at home with parents. Who gets the check? Does it depend on if you're on your parent's taxes as a dependent or not (and i'm not sure how that works based on income, so i'm not sure where people would fall). So, would this person count as a "taxpayer" or as a "child"?

Well, the last time this was done, I was still in college, and my parents were claiming me as a dependant. I was working and paying taxes though. But I didn't get a penny. :ohwell:

ugh...ghey. so if the parents are claiming you as a dependant (which they probably are...cheapskates...) then I'm not getthing chit unless they decide to give me my "child" rebate...which is half of what I deserve...:boo:

OR MAYBE NOT....
Let me finish reading this to be sure though

Taxpayers with children would receive an additional $300 per child, with no limit on the number of child-based rebates. That means a family with four children could enjoy up to $2,400, and a family with two kids could receive up to $1,800.

The definition of a child is the same as the definition used for the regular child tax credit: A qualifying child is someone under age 17 living with the taxpayer for more than half of 2007.

 we'll wait and see. :crossingfingersformoney:

If you're a fulltime student, they're probably still claiming them. How are you going to file your taxes this year? As a dependant?

no, because i'm not dependant

I am not a fulltime student, no, and that is what a GF's marketing teacher said would qualify me under child..or dependant I guess.

According to that article you have to be 17 or under though? Anywho...I THINK I should be getting my own rebate, but we'll just have to wait and see when the check arrives I guess

That doesn't make me full time...

I work full time...I can't do both  (i've tried...and ok...i COULD...but I choose to be able to perform my duties at work and on time, actually be able to pass the classes because i'm not crammed for time, and have a life on the side. Having a life means the most to me...I'll get my schooling done in a timely manner but on my terms, and I "work to live, I don't live to work "
