I would rather listen to George Micheals do the sports than listen to the other George Micheals sing anything.

You are the same 60 year dude that likes "So you think you can Dance" and "American Idol", correct? hmmmmm.......mash that with your love of Wham......If it feels like a gerbil, it's a gerbil......:yay:

I only watch it till the cute girls in the skimpy outfits are ousted.
this last round it was Molly.
But alas, it just was not meant to be and all that were left were the ugly ones. So I stopped watching.

there are no gerbils in my life, or in my dreams.

just wanted to clear this up.

In retrospect,
I was wrong to post that I turned him off when he came on, even if I did. It was not the proper type of post to make this statement in.

I can only guess from his enthusiasm that he would have been one really fun person to kick back and have a beer with.

again, rest in peace G.M. and prayers for you and your family at this time.

Thank you George

...for making sports reporting funny and a delightful lesson in loving life on life's terms.
I always watched Ch. 4 because of him..and the laughs with Jim...those two were a comedy act all to themselves.
When he left Ch. 4, so did I.
Sports were just not the same without him.

I loves seeing him broadcast from his farm, and the barn when he had new horse babies to show off. Oh, how he loved his horses!

The JR terrier races were priceless. The arrival of the Washington National Horse show guaranteed that George would be there to share with us those JR terrier races...and he could never do it with a straight face!!! Best part of the news were those races!

No one broadcasts the races anymore.

I hope his last 2 years off camera and with his family were blessed ones. He deserved nothing less.

Rest well George..Peace to you and your family.

Thank you for you.

And where the hell are we gonna get our wrestling highlights from now????
He & Brenner were the lions of sports broadcasting in this area. Now we get $300.00 haircuts all dying to be on ESPN. For Christ's sake would somebody at least bring back Herzog!!!!

Since my mom is visiting from FL and my dad was a huge George Michaels fan from way back- we were just talking about him last night. Didn't see or hear the news until tonight. :*(

When I moved back to the area, it was so cool to see him again & watch the whole gang at NBC 4 again. Like old friends.

George Michaels was *the only* sports announcer as far as our family was concerned.

Glenn Brenner was probably the funnest sports broadcasters to watch. Man I miss that guy.

I heard when he left Channel 4 - it was because he wouldn't pick which of his staff to cut. They weren't cutting him - he chose to leave rather than cut his own staff.

I'm not sure if that's true or a rumor.

I watched channel 4 today and they metnioned his career, his syndication, the Sports Machine.. etc..

What they didn't mention is he show was also on AFN... EVERY week-end I would stay up late to watch George Michael and the Sports Machine to catch up on the week in sports, whether it was basketball or football. I always looked forward the the highlights and the lowlights.. and never made a connection between him and DC or Baltimore.. What a surprise when I moved to the area and he was my local Sportscaster. I was never so excited about about a newscaster let alone a sportscaster, but seeing him on TV every week in Germany was bringing home to me, and seeing him on TV when I moved here made it feel like I was finally home..

I missed his show for a long time, never could find it on cable or DTV while in NH or PA.. and FINALLY found it when I moved here just in time for him to retire.

For all he did making my life a little normal far from home.. THANK YOU!

True story

:yay: It sounded like him.

I was wondering if Jim Vance would be able to make it through the newscast tonight without breaking up. At the end of the 6:00 news, when they showed a montage of George through the years - Vance had a couple of lines. It was clear from his face & cracking voice he was struggling just to say them. :bawl: It was a great tribute to his friend, though.

I was not ever quite that devoted to him, but I did like him and his style. There was something about that crew that always felt comfortable, moreso than those on other stations.

I'm sure they will miss him, as will many in the viewing region.

RIP, George.

Yeah, I seem to remember when he left it wasn't on the best of terms. What a shame. I kinda thought that WRC showed him no respect for what he had done over the years. :ohwell:

When I first heard of his passing, I immediately thought of Jim Vance. Those two had such a rapport, and were a treat to watch and listen to at the end of every 6pm newscast. Their banter was very amusing at times. Lindsey Czarniak told a touching story about working with him and seemed to have enormous respect for him.

My dad was a radio announcer (in his younger days), George Michael started out in radio. Also, my dad did a lot of announcing of sports games when we lived overseas. There's a way to do play by play sports announcing and not everyone can do it - or do it well. It probably stems from that.

:yay: I felt so very bad for Lindsey tonight. You could tell in her face that she'd had a very tough day & could see how much respect she had for him as a mentor, colleague & friend.

She held up very well, though. I give her a lot of credit. I don't think I could have held up that well, and I know I'm probably twice her age.
