...for making sports reporting funny and a delightful lesson in loving life on life's terms.
I always watched Ch. 4 because of him..and the laughs with Jim...those two were a comedy act all to themselves.
When he left Ch. 4, so did I.
Sports were just not the same without him.
I loves seeing him broadcast from his farm, and the barn when he had new horse babies to show off. Oh, how he loved his horses!
The JR terrier races were priceless. The arrival of the Washington National Horse show guaranteed that George would be there to share with us those JR terrier races...and he could never do it with a straight face!!! Best part of the news were those races!
No one broadcasts the races anymore.
I hope his last 2 years off camera and with his family were blessed ones. He deserved nothing less.
Rest well George..Peace to you and your family.
Thank you for you.
I watched channel 4 today and they metnioned his career, his syndication, the Sports Machine.. etc..
What they didn't mention is he show was also on AFN... EVERY week-end I would stay up late to watch George Michael and the Sports Machine to catch up on the week in sports, whether it was basketball or football. I always looked forward the the highlights and the lowlights.. and never made a connection between him and DC or Baltimore.. What a surprise when I moved to the area and he was my local Sportscaster. I was never so excited about about a newscaster let alone a sportscaster, but seeing him on TV every week in Germany was bringing home to me, and seeing him on TV when I moved here made it feel like I was finally home..
I missed his show for a long time, never could find it on cable or DTV while in NH or PA.. and FINALLY found it when I moved here just in time for him to retire.
For all he did making my life a little normal far from home.. THANK YOU!
