:yay: I remember those suckers from when I was a kid.

Got it all worked out. The campground does have RV rentals on site and I managed to get one directly across from where my aunts and sister's sites are. For less than 1/2 of the rental of the RV from Cruise America (not including the additional gas I would had to have paid) I can have the whole week. So me, the kids and the dog can drive up in our SUV and have the RV ready and waiting for us.

Thanks to CMC for the idea of checking the campground itself for rentals, I certainly would not have thought of that :flowers:
Why do I hear Chevy Chase saying "get in the car Rusty"?

Ah hell, maybe I'll just hire a husband for the week so they can worry about all this crap; me, the kids and the dog can just enjoy the ride.
Make sure you check before going but some campgrounds don't allow pets

:lmao: Well I did consider renting a UHaul truck, throwing the kids in back with a bucket, some snacks, and a mattress :shrug:

I was up on the mast working on a Destroyer's antennas in Portland. As the sun went down, it suddenly felt like I had been rolling in fiberglass insulation, some bug called no-see-ums.

Ahhhhhhh the dreaded "Maine Blackfly". They got me while I was tilling the garden once. I swelled up and itched like a biatch for a whole week. big welts.

...my $.02;

The bigger part of the RV gig is, to me, driving the house down the road. people can go to the can, sleep, get a sammitch, a soda, sit at the booth and play games, more space etc. It is way more fun, to me, driving down the road than a car. I can do 3-400 miles a day, happily, in a coach where a car starts warping my brain. Plus, getting stuck in traffic in a coach is nowhere near the bummer for all the same reasons.

Another thing I like is the early morning start, cup of coffee, making some time, everyone else snoozing. I am a morning person. My people shut their coffin lids around sunrise.

Of course, all my peeps have every reason in the world to not go whenever I bring up a trip, so, your mileage may vary.

The second biggest part is what you are doing; being at the camp ground. The campfire, the nature, etc. Whenever I bring it up, my peeps have wisdom teeth that need pulling, bathrooms to caulk and dust bunnies to inventory.

That certainly was the allure to the whole trip, the experience of travelling in the RV...but the cost difference between renting one to go to Maine and back and renting one already at the campground was far too great. Especially when factoring in that renting the RV from Maryland and only getting a 700 mile allowance...the trip one way is about 1000.

So I think for Memorial Day weekend we will do the RV rental and travel somewhere a little closer.
