Sausage Gravy

Misfit

Lawful neutral
I made some last night for the first time ever. It was delicious but really heavy.

1 Mild Jimmy Dean sausage log thingy
1 quart thick cream
Salt & pepper
Flour

I cooked the sausage down without draining and chopped it up, added the cream then let it simmer. Sifted flour until it was the right thickness. Added salt and pepper to taste.

:yum: I love some sausage gravy. I always use a hot sausage and add the flour to the sausage and grease to create a rue and let it cook for a few minutes before adding the milk/cream.

Side note dont ever get the hot sausage from McKays for sausage gravy. OMFG that #### tasted like pure fire. I couldnt even eat it

I always use that pork sausage in the orange wrapper, forget the name..its cheap and greasy and makes the best gravy  throw it on some biscuits and thats what gets you a man. Seriously.:killingme

I also make a roux with the sausage and flour, then add the half and half or milk, i don't usually use cream..its rich enough without all that.

No one uses buttermilk?
In the biscuits or the gravy itself?

I usually use a mixture of half & half and heavy cream. I also make mine Saturday evening and serve it Sunday morning. Like a good sgetti sauce, chili, or soup it needs a little down time to develop uber delicious flavor
