Say a prayer for hubby

No lawyer. Depending on his income and assets, he can qualify for long term care medical assistance. With his level of care being fairly significant, the amount of assets/income isn't as great as someone with a lesser level of care.

There is also a medical waiver for older adults (over 50) but the waiting list is long but it would pay to get him on the list now.

Paso should contact the St. Mary's Department of Social Services and the Health Department for more information. She has choices other than bringing him home and some are at no cost to her.

The state will also pay for in home care. It is a limited amount (not round the clock) but it will help during the day. We were able to keep my father home alot longer with this option.

The nurses could not believe it....he would quit looking at us and watch tv but when we went to leave he would reach his hand out or want me to hold his hand...I just called the rehab and they said he has been sleeping ever since we left...He really could not talk due to the trache..but when he coughed he did cover this mouth which I would not think was a reflex as they told me scratching his nose the other day was a reflex not a thought out movement..anyway lets see what happens next visit...we were really surprised today..

I went to the rehab today and Bill was awake...he motioned for me to come over to him (he was in a wheel chair but very strapped in) he puckered his lips and I bent over he kissed me on my cheek and then lipped "I love you" I stood by him while he was in the chair and he rubbed my back some..he shook his head NO to a couple of questions..I wet a towel and wiped his face and asked if it felt better he nodded yes...We went to leave several times ..we planned to only be there an hour..everytime we said good bye he would reach out his hand...we stayed 2 hrs...they put him in the bed and he fell asleep...we left..wonder what next Wednesday will bring??

What great news, that sounds like some real progress to me! Still thinking of you and your family. :huggy:

Paso I am so glad to hear the good news! I don't think him covering his mouth was a reflex action either. Stay strong and keep us posted! Prayers continuing.

Holy Moly Paso. That is wonderful news about Bill. Maybe he is beginning to realize how close he came to leaving this earth. I'm so glad you are getting to fix up the house. Sounds like its going to be real nice.

That is the most awesome thing I have heard. I hope that Bill has realized what a wonderful wife he has. I just pray that as he continues to improve that he will be kind to you because you sure deserve it:huggy:

any updates

Hope to get his trache out this week. He recognizes people. Last week he asked where his son was when Little Billy did not go with us. We go up there again tomorrow so will have more updates. He still has the feeding tube but when the trache comes out they will be starting to feed him. He does not walk yet and still they keep mittens on him so he does not pull tubes out etc. He is at what they call minimal concience state. He is not consistant yet. In and out. I found out he pats everyone on the back not just me..:lmao:
