Shooting in CRE?

CRE has monthly neighborhood watch meetings w/ the Sheriff's dept. I don't know how many people attend but it sounds like more people need to; to express concerns and rage over this happening in their front yards! The Sheriff's dept needs a stronger presence here.
Out of curiousity, is the home where all the kids were hanging, a rental property?

No clue. I don't really talk to them. Why do you ask?

I go the meetings when they have them. The problem is they get cancelled a lot due to there only being a handful of participants. We need more people to get these thugs out of here. I live on Warbonnet and have expressed concerns to the officers about these "problems" so they are aware and have been watching. The officers have instructed us to call whenever we see them around if we think they are up to no good.

I went to one of the meetings back when we first moved here. I think their might have been a dozen people there. They didn't DO anything. They talked about the problems, and discuss them with a LEO rep, but they don't DO anything. Neighborhood watch groups are only effective in numbers, and only if they actually are out there watching. I was a block captain years ago in ST Paul. We were what the cops call a 'pocket' . No crime on our block or the neighboring blocks, because my group actually went out and walked the 'hood, and refused to be intimidated by punks and hoodlums. We didn't play at being cops, we just stood our ground and called the cops when necessary. We gave the cops plenty of business at first, but after a month things got real quiet on our block. :)

Aren't we paying for security? I've met the older dude, seems like a nice enough fellow, but I wouldn't consider one guy in a pickup truck cruising 60 sum miles of road an effective deterrent, or an effective set of eyeballs... Not to mention that responding to the scanner is hardly being proactive... security should not be reactive, thats the LEO's job. Heck I don't know what POACRE pays the security, but for 10 bucks an hour I'd cruise around and look for crime part time at night, just for giggles. Bet I'd get some shmoobles arrested too. Should be able to find a few good people who would. On the cheap like that they should be able to afford a decent presence.

Now, I hope you aren't planning on digging on renters with your last question there. The guy that was selling heroin on my street was a homeowner (foreclosed, yay!). The people down the road who were hassling my 8 YO for playing on "our street" (unpaved small road) and tried to start a fight with me when I stopped by to find out if my son had done something wrong or whatnot.... are homeowners. The guy who is apparently selling oxy down the road from me is a homeowner. The people three houses down think they are nascar drivers on our road, and they are homeowners (I holler at them a lot, LOL) I'm a renter, and I care about our community, the safety of our children, and the sanctity of our homes. Sory if that's not where you were going, but I hear it a lot, and it's bunk.

:yay: I'm a renter as well and it gets under my skin when they insinuate things.

I wasn't trying to insuniate anything. I know there are good renters and good homeowners, bad renters and bad homeowners, good dogs and bad dogs, etc etc.
I think many landlords are absent and don't have a clue what is really going on at their properties. If the house where all the thugs are hanging out is a rental, maybe the neighbors need to let the landlord know what is happening.

Hasn't been much different no matter where we've lived... FL, had it's share of issues as did ST Paul. Part of the curse of being middle income, you get all kinds, LOL. Where do you live? Unless you live in mansion-land, I bet if you really opened your eyes, you'd find some too! Heck they even have crime at the NAS, and I can't think of anywhere around here more secure than there.

Since the incident that I am referring to happened right around the time the elementary kids got off the bus I am thankful that the one they were after wasn't walking down the street like he normally is. I am thankful they did a driveby of his house instead of a driveby on the street that could have taken out a bunch of kids.

It's bad enough these kids are afraid to walk on their own street. They already scared a bunch of kids that they leered at when they were driving around.

Are these people known for this type of behavior? Are the community trouble makers in general?

But ins't the landlord bound by laws? If there is drug dealing in there, can they not suspend the lease and move them out?

We have a house on our court that is always being rented out. The homeowner doesn't live in the US. She lets her rental company rent out the place. We've had to call the Sheriff's numerous times on that house in the past. Several families living in it at one time (even to the point where one family was living on the screened in back porch). Finally, everyone left and the drug dealers moved in while it was abandoned. Got them kicked out too and the Sheriff's boarded it up so nobody can sneak back in.

I wish the homeowner knew what was going on at "her" house but there's no way of contacting her. I can only imagine what the inside of that place looks like with what has been residing there in the last few years. They should just demolish that house. Bad karma surrounds that place.

Make em give it to me, LOL. I'll clean out all the needles, fix it up, and be a good neighbor

Oh believe me, I'd do it in a heart-beat if the owner would ever come back from Germany and actually see what has become of her house.

Freaken ridiculous! Pretty soon people who live there aren't even going to let their kids outside to play. It's not like it's an inner city or the ghetto, geez! So are there a lot of other gang bangers living there that you guys need to be concerned about? I really think I'd find ways to make their lives a living hell until they moved away, run 'em out of the neighborhood.

And if the two guys who got shot were indeed gang bangers, it's unfortunate they're still alive. Just a waste of taxpayer money for their whole lives, no doubt.

I had just gotten comfortable with allowing my youngest to ride his bike in front of the house without me standing there in the street with him. :ohwell:
