sinus infections

thank you all for the responses.:howdy:i think the Mucinex is working. I don't have so much pressure. I still have a slight headache. But that may be from my overindulgence of V and T's yesterday.
:whistle::otter:

I'd like to get a netti pot. I seem to have sinus infections a couple times a year. in the spring and after a bad cold. I read online that I should take a tsp. of Apple Cider Vinager everyday to prevent it. Maybe I'll try that to with this crazy weather, I may need to .
Afrin Severe Congestion No Drip nasal spray is a wonderful thing. 3 quick sprays and it will open up your sinus passages quickly.

Have you ever tried a netti pot? My husband has historically had sinus problems until he started using one. He has been using it almost daily for over a year and it has really helped. In addition to the salt, he adds a little bit of baking soda - the salt breaks up the mucous and kills germs and the baking soda soothes inflamed tissues.
My sinus' were completely plugged. Used a nasal rinse (not netti pot I don't believe, but same thing). Absolutely disgusting to do, but it worked wonders. Used that to clear out the sinus' and then started with nasal sprays to keep them clear. I am breathing better now than I have in the last 3 years.

I have a terrible one and have tried everything. Hot compresses to the point of burning my skin, apple cider vinager sips, inhaling vaporized honey. It's been off and on for two weeks now. Some days are great and some days, like today and yesterday, horrible. The pressure is so intense.
Any other suggestions til I call the doc tomorrow?

I take the horses triple sulfa tabs...(same as human bacrim DS) I am sure the vet (opps dr) will give you antibiotics and that should clear you up...

Yeah I do that after working with the dogs...tsp salt to a cup warm water and I squirt it up one nostril with a 10cc syringe...you really feel great after that..

you know what? I took some sulfa tabs about a month ago, and I felt great while i was taking them, and for a week or two after. but I had a reaction at the end of the ten days of taking them. I broke out in hives. boo. I wish I could because they are great for the horses for any kind of wound you worry about. I can pick them up from my vet anytime. much cheaper than the dr.s. I am still contemplating on calling the dr. I may give it one more day.

I love the Netti Pot!!!
My boss's wife convinced me to try it .... It took a little while to get used to it, but I'm so happy that I tried. It washes all of the snot and germs right out of my sinuses. It's pretty awesome.

I found a plastic one at CVS for around $12. It's called a Sinus Cleanse (I think). Everyone needs to go buy one!

Wal-Mart has those too. Really helped when I had a nasty infection back in September.

Is that Bactrim? I'm not even sure if that is how to spell it. Same as antibiotics but sulfa drug?? If so, I can't take that stuff either, I am allergic to sulfa drugs. I get hives from one end of me to the other. I won't tell you exactly what amoxicillin does to me but it's every woman's worst nightmare! :lmao:

It is

Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim tabs double strength 800mg/160 mg

I am sure you would NOT take this if you knew you were allergic to sulfa

I am thinking I pay $70 for 500 tabs...

You are kidding me right..:killingme I can get cephlexin, tetracycline, PCN, Amoxi, flagyl (metroconazole), and more w/o a script..usually are 250 mg per tab

Yeah, well, we know how you are.

Oh, and throw in some LA-200. It stings like a biatch, but it'll cure some foot rot in a jiffy! :yay:

:smack: anyone dumbass..NOT just me :diva:

Easy on the name calling....geesh. I know you can get animal drugs...but I wouldn't take them. Unless you're sure you're getting the dosage correct, you could be over or under drugging yourself. I don't like to use antibiotics unless I really have to......and I always follow the directions. Screwing up antibiotics can do more harm than good.

I am just saying you can get them ..not saying you HAVE to take them..just an option..I hardly ever take antibiotics so when I do they work...

dosage is usually easy to figure out..you look up how many mg per lb you are to use then you weigh the subject (peeps or animals) and dosage accordingly..

That's all well and good, but doctors go to school for 8 years to be able to tell us which meds work best on which sicknesses. I just don't take risks when it comes to my health. :huggy:
