Sounds like your problem lies here.
You weren't consulted about this and you're pissed about it.

Having a bunch of kids over is a pretty minor thing. I would think any bill-paying adult in the house has the right to unilaterally say 'aye' or 'nay' to such a request.

Ya' know, I think I will jump into the fray. If Larry is going to take the responsibility for all the shananigans, you should be okay with it. Call the girls and go out. :yay:

Won't happen. She'll have already got what she wanted.

Hummmm then you'll have to remember what she didn't do this time, next time.

I’m not dogging out Larry, but men seem to do these types of things without really considering the pressure and stress this puts on the one who does the most housework. And, most women will tell you that the scales are clearly unbalanced in that department, and kids know how to play the ‘yes’ parent all too well. When I was growing up, I always went to my mom because she was the one who most often said yes.

He should have asked, bottom line and I'm sure you feel somewhat 2nd rate because he didn't. I would.

Catt, you remind me of my MIL, and the funny thing, I was around when she was going through these types of issues and she was not as pleasant as she is now. I think becoming a grandparent mellows you out.

Am I out of line to want to at least be consulted when the girls are having packs of friends over? Or is Larry out of line for doing this without talking to me first?
Why aren't these the poll questions? Isn't that what you really want to know? You don't really want the definition of a "party", do you?

For the answer to the real questions:

If he has to ask you in order to have six girls spend the night, I have to wonder if you allow him to change out of his skirt to go to work. Isn't he an equal partner? Don't you trust his judgement?

I don't understand delayed restriction - do you wait before rubbing a dogs nose in his own crap? If they don't receive immediate discipline, what's the point?

Nope...I just loved having the kids around. Still do for the most part. I always baked cookies for them, had enough food for an army..they just never bothered me.

I didn't really understand that one myself. Larry and the counselor thought it up. Something about if you get a speeding ticket, the cop doesn't expect you to pay it right then and there - you get a few weeks or whatever to pay it when it's more convenient.

...another point of view, I was never crazy about having a bunch of kids over. I tolerated it, but didn't care for it. I'm not the neighborhood mommy type, and shrill screams will send me over the edge.

I enjoy kids too, but I don't want to walk in the house, after work, and not be prepared. I’m just a planner that way and I don’t like unexpected surprises.

 That way you can make sure you don't have any plans while you're grounded.

Now that just sounds stupid! If you get a ticket, you are being punished. If you want to correct behavior you receive discipline, not punishment.

For discipline to be effective, it must be immediate. Delayed discipline is like credit. If it won't hurt my azz (or my wallet) today, why not do it?

I don't mind having them over if they're down in the basement and not running all over the house til 5am, then passing out all over my living room and getting pissed if I go down there at 10am to make coffee or something.

Then just send 'em to the basement. If it's not clean enough for them, that's their problem. They can clean it up for themselves.

The girls asked Larry if they could have a party tonight. We told them no because they didn't bother to bring this up until 11:00 last night.

I haven't read this thread yet, but go check Larry's karma from another thread early this morning. :sigh: :flowers: :huggy:
