I feel that SMECO forgot about me & my neighborhood as well.
Yes, they singled you and Joilyn2323 out. I was there. I heard them. They said: "you know that Joilyn2323 and boojack? We're gonna save them for last :killingme " They were laughing and eating steaks at Outback when I heard this. I thought one lineman was gonna piss himself he was laughing so hard. :duh:

Maybe instead of driving around the trees, you should have cut them up, just leaving SMECO with the actual power problem to deal with.

Your power came on in the middle of the night? Guess that means SOMEONE was up all night working on fixing the problem??

IMO maybe SMECO as a company needs to work out a new solution to dealing with these problems, but you have to remember that SMECO only has so many employees and so much manpower to take care of these problems. These guys have been working there arses off since Friday. These guys that were looking just as forward to there three day weekend as you were, these guys that had plans with friends and family just as well as you did. They gave up these plans, and family gatherings to get YOUR power back on, try being a little grateful to these guys instead of biatching because you had to live without power for a couple days.

That was so well written and I agree with you 100%. It was a pain in the butt for so many and I hope SMECO can learn something from this so they are better prepared but the guys did a hell of a job, hands down. :huggy:

I was wondering why people did not pitch in a work on the trees or debris as a community instead of waiting for someone else to do it, where I lived at before that is what we did, we would all pitch in and did what we could.

I would not touch any trees that were near downed power lines.

Yes, I can see myself...cutting up tree's that are laying on Powerlines!

I understand that, smeco was working...and their week end was ruined, but so was mine. They are making a lot of money this week end. An they deserve it, but I had to spend a lot of money to survive, and I count on my county and the eletric company to at least know what is going on and where the power outages are. Isn't that why our electric bills are so high?

Paid a lot of money to survive? That is a bit dramatic isn’t it? I know we got hit harder than we thought we would but all of us had to go though hardships at one level or another but I really think that survival is over dramatizing it.

I think everyone answered it correctly and those guys did a good job, making a lot of money had nothing to with the hours or the work these guys had to do. Your weekend was ruined….wow …..you know that is just so unbelievably self-centered that I don’t even think it is worth getting into it.

I would hate to see how well you would fair in something a bit more devastating such as Katrina.

And for those who don't wish to be electrocuted, leave them for the electric company.

Are the lines still live or at some point do they cut them off for that very reason? I thought they cut the power off because SMECO or somebody would have to move them.

Hee Hee...I'm quoting myself....anyway, I also think the power company is doing all it can. I still wouldn't touch those trees near power lines.

Are you willing to take the chance?

We did but not without doing some prep work first. Like I said someone called first. AND the all the trees were not on the lines, there was only one thank goodness. But again I do not think anyone is insinuating that people go and start gathering up trees in live power lines. They just assumed that the reader had enough sense NOT to do that.

I don't think smeco is picking up trees that are just laying in people's yards. They are dealing with the ones affecting the power.

How do you want to check to see if it's still live, this is the kind of juice that leaves a couple of smoking stubs for arms if you touch it.

At least they were over in St. Mary's somewhere, there wasn't a smeco truck to be seen in Calvert until late saturday afternoon.
:yeahthat: And they sent me a nice "end of the year bill" for $443.00. They said they didn't charge enough during the year. I said, "And for the next year what are you charging me a month?" The same. And I said, "BS." I don't want a big bill at the end of the year dammit. That's why I pay an average year round. :banghead:

Never, and I repeat NEVER go near downed power lines. Just because you "called" someone who said they are off does not mean they are dead. Even the linemen test and ground out the lines while making repairs. Some lines have automatic breakers that reset themselves (due to nuisence tripping from treelimbs in the wind).

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Mikeinsmd again.

Thank You Mike!!!! I don't think people are getting this concept!!!!!

Correct..... over 7100 volts on distribution lines.

And for the rocket scientists that think it's ok to use a wooden handled garden instrument, think again. Wood has moisture in it. That's why SMECO uses fiberglass "hot sticks" that get tested on a regular basis.

Ummmm not I was not….. I suggested that if you could and that was assuming you had the common sense not to go near trees that were on the lines but others that were attainable. Not all trees are on power lines.
There are trees that in the road that are not on the power lines that are not too heavy or cumbersome and so on.

As I said I was not the one to confirm this…..but I there are ways to do so because it was done.

I think they do get the concept it is just you assumed we were talking about going to a tree that was on a live power line and just start hacking away.

Again not all trees were on the lines and some where only fallen. And yes, there were many in the neighborhood that the guy who is a part of the association did call and confirm that the lines were dead. I do not know anything about that process nor am I going to assume or speculate on it but there is a way.
