The rate is 20% higher than this time last year.

But SMECO is doing a good job at controlling costs, I think. BG&E just filed for a 45% rate increase and the poor folks they service are already paying rates about 60% higher than ours. :ohwell:

All these folks who bought the big houses that were built here in the last 5 years are really going to feel it because energy charges aren't likely to decrease for years.

And the news said Milk prices are going to double too...
TG I don't drink milk. :yay:

This means our taxes are going to increase to pay for the "Utility assistance programs" up in the BG&E area. :yay:

Now that you mention it... our taxes are on the rise because of the increased costs in operations for several departments:

These departments saw an increase in their operating budgets:

Department of Recreation and Parks up $326,829
Department of Aging up $295,588
Department of Human Resources up $221,804
Department of Economic and Community Development up $200,469
County Attorney up $84,851
Department of Finance up $87,558
Land Use and Growth Management up $83,957
Marcey Halfway House up $44,031

This is a good model of taxaion. The actual people who use the resources and are served by the government in an area pay for those governmental services. If ST Mary's county government provides the service ST Mary's county tax payers pay for it. State wide programs are funded by the state and Federal programs are funded by the Fed.
