Ew, that one where the person says "don't bend over too fast or food will come out of the hole" is really hard for me to watch.

I've seen someone smoke through their trach hole before and that's pretty horrible too... Some years ago, I did a nutrition assessment for a 40 year old woman that had the trach hole and a peg tube. She said things were bad enough that she saw no reason to go through the process of quitting at that point.

Wow!! Habits are hard to break, I guess. So far soo good, I bought a pack but I am too afraid to do any research from reading these posts, now . Thanks!! I got diagnosed with Barretts Esophagus (precancerous) thats why I quit (with Chantix) a few years ago. My esophagus was so badly lesioned at the time that there were some lesions bleeding so badly they couldnt even take samples for a biopsy. More and more I'm now remembering why smoking is a :nono:for me, personally!! :stupid: Thanks!

Smoked since 1976, 1-2 packs a day. Lobectomy <removal of the lobe> , left side, upper lobe, March 9, 2009.
For some strange reason, I no longer had the desire to smoke once I woke up the next day...:sarcasm:

Just ask yourself "Is it worth it?"
Is it worth the risk of getting hooked again?
Is that feeling worth the added cost to your wallet and your health?

That's a choice only you can make. Maybe like some, you can do it and not get hooked. Or maybe like others, just 1 cig and you're hooked again.

As for me, I'll never go back. I've got important reasons in my life that remind me not to. If you're on the fence, maybe you need to find (or remember) a reason to not smoke.

good luck. :huggy:

Thanks, I didn't know you could develop a habit again with just one ciggerette, but apparently you can. Good to know, not worth it! Or even to take a chance! Alls well! Thanks for the pms too from folks! :huggy: I wasnt aware how quickly one can fall back and relapse. I've never relapsed so I didnt know.

Smoking is a habit, not an addiction. And I do not care what the hysterics in the special interest groups say. I know any number of people who are what we call "social smokers", as in they only smoke under certain circumstances, and rarely do they go beyond one or two cigarettes even then. I also know people - Larry is one of them - who simply...quit. No fanfare, no Chantix or patches - they just woke up one day and decided they didn't want to smoke anymore and that was that.

Clearly and demonstrably, smoking is not nearly as addictive as the crazy people would like you to believe and anyone who insists otherwise is retarded.

That said:

Cricket, you have kicked your habit. Why pick it back up again? It's expensive, it's inconvenient, you catch hell from the innumerable Nazis flitting about looking for something to be angry about - what's the point? And I say that as a dedicated smoker who has no intention of quitting.

Take up a better hobby. Paint me some decorations or something.

Wait a minute, first you say it’s not an addiction; then say it’s not nearly as addictive. Is your opinion on this evolving?

But I challenge you to prove it’s not addictive. Quit for one year.

Instead of smoking again, why not pick up a crutch that can make you healthier? Like sex. Have sex ... oh ... 2 ... 3 times a day, and you won't think about cigarettes .... AND you'll lose weight too

Throw it out. Now. Don't leave it sit there to tempt you.

And don't listen to anybody telling you that it isn't addictive. If it wasn't, you wouldn't be having this conversation. The addiction/dependency is a combination of psychological and biological factors.

To answer your question, 2 cigarettes. One to start again and the 2nd to make it habit.

There are some yoga places around that let you pay by the session, rather than sign a contract for a monthly fee - it'll surely cost less than cigarettes and can teach you how to help you rid yourself of stress LONG TERM. Find one with a beginners class and you'll probably find that there are a lot of casual drop-in people. Hope your life gets more peaceful, but please throw that pack away.

Railroad

Routinely Derailed
I smoked for 37 years and I'm very glad I quit, after the first cancer was found in my bladder. Thirteen tumors and five surgeries, six weeks of immunotherapy during which I lost 40 lbs. and was sick every week. I went to my doctor and was given a combination of drugs and the Patch system and got off the cigs. For a long time, even sometimes now, the smell of smoking is gross to me. I was a rabid anti-smoker (some of you here will recall) for a long time, now I'm less so, but still wouldn't want anybody to start back up again after quitting. Prior to my doctor's intervention, I had tried to quit 6 times, unsuccessfully every time. Some people can drop smoking no problem, and I applaud them. Others have to have a very painful reason to stop, and even then some folks keep poisoning themselves right to the grave. Anyhow, there are anti-anxiety meds that will help in the way you expect smoking to help, if you talk to your doctor.
