You specifically said she found the term "offensive." But didn't find African offensive... that means that the "American" part was what she found offensive. Why wouldn't she say call me American or black? The majority of Americans have a speckled "cultural" history- so there are very few by your "genetic make-up/cultural upbringing theory" that can actually call themselves Americans.Hot N Bothered said:The term is a designation of race and cultural background, not citizenship. Her race is African. Her genetic make-up and cultural upbringing had nothing to do with being American. She didn't like the term, she thought those who demanded it's use to be pretentious. She felt if anyone was justified in using it, it was her, but it had come to mean something different, something more like, "African wannabes" and as the real deal, she wanted nothing to do with it.
I bet she's chubby too.DoWhat said:Yea, who is the dominant one?

What about the Black American that gets called African American, even though he's from Jamaica, or Haiti? Little stereotyping to say EVERY black is form Africa..morganj614 said:I will not say African American unless you are willing to call me Italian, Scottish, French, Native American American. We are all shades of brown, from ecru, to beige, to tan, to cocoa and to dark chocolate. My heritage is just as freakin important to me so when you call me all those heritages I shall say African American.

Hey, the whining p!sses me off too. BTW I'm Scott, Irish, Welsh, and Native American, I know I don't mix well with alcohol. I have been told that at times I was entertaining and at others somewhat, shall I say, hostile.morganj614 said:Now now Ken...I can get riled up too!..lol I thought about editing it but it just makes me mad to hear the whining sometimes.

Didn't judge you by the avatar (matter of fact I just looked close enough to figure out it is an olive splashing down in a martini. I hadn't noticed until now), I just know the history of Native Americans and booze, it's like a poison to many of us. And if you haven't figured it out yet I am somewhat Looney Tunes. 14 years sober hasn't made much of a difference in that arena.morganj614 said:Don't judge me by my AV and I won't judge you by yours and call you a Loonie Tune. So what one person brings on themself in that community, should give another person the right to judge the entire community by? I disagree. I am not a cannibal because Jeffrey Dahmer ate all those people, and because most white people are serial killers, doesn't mean I am going to become one, etc.
Racism is alive and well especially in cornflake county, St. Marys!
It's one of the few things in my life that I have done solely for me, though many others have benefited from the change. Sure makes getting up in the morning (or whenever) a hell of a lot easier.morganj614 said:Yes you are an L.T., somewhat..lol..and congrats on the 14 sober years!

It really doesn't matter what your lily white azz thinks. You are not black! My son got punched in the eye in Gym on Friday and came home with a huge shiner. His Step Father said... "That's what you get for playing "N" ball.
They do live with hatred and while it comes back at us from time to time it's what we get! I won't return the red karma because I'm not into playing silly games.
I pray the you are reicarnated as a poor black man living in the bronx.
