On here, the vitriol over things out of our control prohibits any semblance of civility between (alleged) adults. I may disagree with you on an issue or not share the same opinion as you, but I am not going to turn into a raging, petulant toddler screaming, "I know you are, but what am I." To me that is a manifestation of the downward spiral we are allowing ourselves to be trapped in. As much as I hate to say it, the Religion forum brings out the absolute worst in people on here. The BAC's constantly beating down on the RCC, the RCC firing back. To what end? What have you accomplished? You sure as hell aren't winning over any converts on either side of Christianity.

As for FB, I post on there all the time. Usually just pics of the house, my waterfront light shows, the kids and my wife and I when we get gussied up for an event. I think the lower traffic on FB has to do with all the ads (previously mentioned) and the stupid 'trending' feeds. That and the "Say AMEN for this disfigured child" and "If you don't say Amen, you are filled with Satan." (Got that one today) I like to see the photography my friend Nupe shares and I enjoy reading about my friend Dani and how her son's HS football team made it to the TX state semi finals and I actually use it to keep in touch with friends and family members around the country, you know, like its original mission.

:yeahthat:

This place is nowhere near as much fun as it used to be. So many of the former "regulars" have dropped out. My opinion is that so many of the threads have now turned into who can out do each other in nasty comments instead of actual conversations. It's tiresome. I'm also busy in life and don't want to have to weed though the hate and discontent to find anything worth reading, so I mark all as read and move on.

As for FB, I keep my circle pretty small and don't really follow anyone. I also tire of some of the propaganda posts and do tire of those that CONSTANTLY post their selfies! Look at me!!! What I usually post is pretty benign and I don't share the personal aspects of my life. Others, not so much...

So many of the former "regulars" have dropped out.

But where did they go? Or did they just stop posting in forums altogether? I know a bunch of them moved away and, frankly, just don't love us anymore. Many of them, we all keep in touch on FB.

But it isn't really any more vitriolic on here than it used to be. In fact, it's probably less nasty because there are fewer combatants. Not a week went by before that there wasn't at least one epic battle thread where we'd all sit around and  :snacks:. Is it that these new fighters aren't nearly as interesting, and it's just stupid? Have we lost our taste for it?

Very interesting commentary coming from you; you being a co-owner of this site which is your livelihood. Food for thought, so to speak.

^This....

Plus it is all political....Lame!

Yeah, we used to squabble back and forth, get personal and ugly, but then get together for beers on the weekends. It was like a reality show. I can't see that happening with this new batch.

Fun times that I remember.

I have two questions. Is it just member posts that generate revenue, or do member views generate revenue, also? And, do guest views factor into the generation of revenue?

None of that directly generates revenue. We are advertising driven.

I don't do twitter, snap, insta-whatever, and all that crap. I barely post anything on FB. I'm fed up with all the unsolicited ads on FB.

Those aren't unsolicited ads. You asked for them when you signed up for your Facebook account. More accurately, Facebook told you they will look at your search history and deliver to you ads that align with your interests and you agreed to the terms of service. There's nothing unsolicited about that.

I think Facebook's honeymoon/reunion period is over with. Everyone has reconnected with all these people from the past and now we learn about a little too much from all these "reconnections", such as their politics or religion by posting their views or news pieces supporting their views. Although you are able to see the true colors of these peeps, I'm just not interested. I would rather see pics of your families or what music you are listening to, what movies are good, etc....The debating/personal view aspect, has cut my time from FB considerably.

:yay:

The thing I love about FB is seeing what all the people I am (genuinely interested in and) friends with are up to. Some are long time friends from the past that I have reconnected with or new friends.

I do occasionally post something of a "personal view", mostly I will like someone else's meme, etc. I have to feel *very strongly about something before I post it, because I'm not trying to debate people on my FB page. I do that here.

I love the family pics and the food pics, as well. I really love reading the things people are doing (visiting here or there on vacay) Love most of the memes people post depicting one silly thing or another or inspirational thoughts, etc.

I don't do snap chat, although I've begun following some people on Twitter and Instagram.

I am loving looking at pictures of everyone's Christmas tree decorations and holiday traditions.

Going to post a tread about that right now! :bann:

I check in here to see if there's anything "local" being talked about or anything else interesting. I don't read all the threads. I think we've become a nation of headline grabbers (Click Bait) competing for our attention, so on here, if the thread title isn't interesting, I don't bother.

Facebook, I have to admit, I use it mostly to log onto other accounts and play games. I also go in and check it occasionally, but it's become so full of ads and marketed to me interests and such, that I don't scroll for long to read everything.

I have an Instagram, and I love it, when I have time to go in and use it. That's where I see pictures of friends and family and their friends and family and their pets and interests.

I have Twitter and I don't use it.

My husband uses Google +, so I have it and don't use it either.

There are so many ways to connect I suffer from connection over-load. And honestly I am a bit of Luddite.

However, every year, this time of year - from around Thanksgiving to the New Year, whether on the forums or elsewhere, there's always a drop in use on all social media sites. Whether it's due to family or holiday or social commitments or otherwise.
