But where did they go? Or did they just stop posting in forums altogether? I know a bunch of them moved away and, frankly, just don't love us anymore. Many of them, we all keep in touch on FB.

But it isn't really any more vitriolic on here than it used to be. In fact, it's probably less nasty because there are fewer combatants. Not a week went by before that there wasn't at least one epic battle thread where we'd all sit around and  :snacks:. Is it that these new fighters aren't nearly as interesting, and it's just stupid? Have we lost our taste for it?

Its not vitriol...we like that. Its just repetitive. Same people, same argument. Some folks following around other users to make stupid and predictable comments about them.

But I agree with you, the following around to be mean and hijack every thread is tedious. At least before people would start dedicated threads to fight with their mortal enemy so you could follow it.

From what I have seen, you have about 6 or 7 members on here that do absolutely nothing but troll and start fights in threads. I know that you see it and I know that you know which ones they are.

So... why not do something about it? If most of your forum members are not happy with the constant name calling, in-fighting, thread hijacking, etc. Then why do you continue to let it happen?

Serious question...

^This....

Plus it is all political....Lame!

^^^THIS^^^

Aren't we taught from a young age theres two things you don't discuss...politics & religion. All everyone wants to fight and argue about are those two topics. Its like enough already. Seriously how many people have you debated, argued w/, etc.. that have said "you know what you're right I'm gonna switch to democrat/republican/whatever" Oh yea that's right NONE! :duh:

I think FB is a big reason why a lot of the regulars left/don't post... people who you used to only know as a screen name now all of the sudden became actual people. So you're not fighting w/ a screen name any longer.

I've broached this subject a number of times on here - getting rid of the people who do nothing but troll and flame - and the majority opinion has always been to leave them alone, free speech, etc. Believe me, I definitely see it and have thought many times about sending them packing.

I do think I'll start being more proactive with the infractions and timeouts, though, for those who cannot seem to control themselves at least a little bit. I've been pretty lazy about that lately.

I've been surprised that you have been very lax on the copyright rules, postings that are entire articles just cut/pasted in here. I'd be concerned about losing my entire livelihood to copyright infringement for someone else's disregard.

The occasional in-fighting and teasing is one thing however, there are a handful of members here that do absolutely nothing but jump into threads, hurl insults, and really contribute nothing else to the conversation.

I know you know who they are.

It is nice seeing a conversation or even a debate with the exchange of ideas and thoughts/. IT sucks when it is ruined by some attention seeker with nothing to contribute.

It doesn't come to that. If the original author objects, they send us a note asking us to cut it, and we do.

But you're right - I need to be more on top of that as well. A lot of the medium referenced don't care about reprints, so it becomes two full time jobs to 1) read every thread; 2) check the link; and 3) determine if they care about reprints.

Vrai, could you please come to my FB and put a couple people in timeout? I don't mind remaining friends with them for other reasons, but sometimes they could use a swift kick in the ass.

TIA

Understood. But it would be far easier for everyone if people just posted short, meaningful excerpts with a link, as recommended in the FAQs. Let us decide if we want to follow the thread or not.

I completely agree. I'm sure the reason they post the whole article, or most of it, is because it's lame or uninteresting and they know that nobody will click the link. It's equally annoying when they just post the link with no description of what it leads to.

There are lots of things about this forum that annoy me.

Facebook - I have unfollowed 99% of the political stuff - Daily Caller, The Hill, Chicks, Beck, CNS .... I have discovered Old School Role Playing Groups - Dungeons and Dragons, other PNP games ... miniatures etc and shifted my focus back to fun stuff ... I have also un-followed 99% of the acquaintances from life, we never talk so why bother ... I don't need 5,000 'friends' just to seem popular

Twitter - it was nice to keep up with politics, but it got old after a couple years
Instagram - never was a fan
Pintrest - is fun to look at sometimes - Architecture, Zombie Survival Gear - Im not a huge fan however
4square - I never go anywhere so it was a waste
I got interested in Vines for about 45 sec.

with an abundance of mobile apps .. teens don't have to be tied to FB.

I call people when I want to talk to them, get updates, find out the latest family news.

Remember when people used to use their phone as a telephone?

Phone, this thing is a Phone  who knew
... with FB messenger I never call my wife I text her if she calls it it is with the FB msg app, because I am usually home on wireless

Not only were the fights better back in the day, the humor was as well.... I would laugh my ass off at some of the shenanigans on here. Good times! :buddies:

People need to just quit the artificial social media and try to learn something new, like just being social. Try some face to face with people you actually know, and the names you don't know, who cares?. I know that is a really radical concept, but ya never know.

what's really obnoxious is when old people equate a younger person expertly navigating social media and not knowing how to socialize in person. While sometimes that may ring true, I'm getting tired of the absolute blanket statements over my social life and social media being one in the same. They are not. Please stop as you (general you) sound like a grouchy ignorant old fart.

While you may be the RAREST of exceptions, I would dare you to have any teenager or hell... even some 30 y/o to do without their social media outlets for even 1 weekend. For a great deal of people, social media is not only their 'social life' it is almost their LIFE.
