One of my favorite places circa 1990 was Border Willie's in the center where KMart (California/Lex Park) is. They had $1 Lone Star nights and $1 was about all I could afford then.

When they first opened the food was adequate, but then they concentrated on the drinking crowd and went to crap.

Some of my favorites:

Arthur Treacher's (Great Mills Road)
Charlie Brown's (Shangri-La Drive beside Sherwin Williams)
Bambinos (where the pet place is now behind Big Lots)
Poor Boys (Where the Mixing Bowl is now)
Hardees (The old Arby's building in LPC)
Vesuvius (Wildewood shopping center)
Smokey Joe's (bbq place beside the old 7-11 on GMR)
Shelly's Deli (on Shangri-La drive)

Surrey Inn was in Huntingtown
I miss their breakfasts.

Also, not to nit-pick, but it was Robert's Deli where Yo Mama's is now.

I used to work at Big-Daddy's. Worst job I ever had

Not to mention the 50 BBQ joints that come and go behind the Huntingtown 7-11.

That place was only open for about 3.5 seconds. They had the Opening Soon! sign up for over a year, then they finally opened, then shut down within a few months.

It wasn't bad either, just a little over priced. They didn't fail as a restaurant per se, the fraud caught up to them.

Robert's Deli become Robertsons Restaurant, then went to Yo Mama's... We liked it as the deli, loved it as the restaurant (awesome flat iron steak dinner, great wine list), never been in to Yo Mama's for some reason... [edited to add]: I think I remember it going back to a deli style when they got rid of the back two portions of the building...

Never got in the Surrey Inn either... Live right off Plum Point road too...

I had an ex work at Robert's. Food was ok. They had the back part (where LaTolteca's is now), then got rid of it. I vaguely remember another restaurant going in there after Robert's , but before Yo Mamas.

Yo Mamas is nice. Personally, I prefer smaller bars. I find the staff very nice, and the owner is nice also. The wings are delicious.

Surrey Inn had the BEST breakfast! (I'm right up the road from you)

I only went there once. The atmosphere was like a school cafeteria and the food was almost as good.

Yep. That's what it was like the last time I went there. At first the servers were good, and the food was decent. The last time I went there the servers acted like we were in the way and the food sucked. A few months later they were out of business.

Buzzed by the old Monk's last week and notice that something new has opened there, but did not catch the name.

Retriever's Grill is the new name. Something about an eating establishment being named after a dog that doesn't make it sound too appealing, but have heard good things so far. It should be a good option for the NESEA crowd.

Well, there may be something comforting about the "hair of the dog" to some folks...just sayin....

And speaking of Piney Point Rd... *newsflash*: the old Knott's Kitchen (then Pat's Seafood after that) is re-opening apparently..not sure what as yet though. Looks like remodeling is almost complete...

Bear Creek BBQ is moving there. A notice on their FB page yesterday:

BEAR CREEK IS MOVING!

We will be closed for the month of January, but don't worry you can come and see us when we re-open AT OUR NEW LOCATION in February. We will be just in on the left on Route 249 (the old Knott's Kitchen) across from the Callaway Post Office. We are still available for catering.

Please e-mail bearcreekbbq@aol.com for more information.
