The mall is fine. It is getting a little more "ghetto" only because Waldorf is getting more and more crowded. I don't think anyone needs to be worried about shopping at Waldorf mall, it's fine.

I'm not so sure, my daughter and a friend of ours went to the mall the other night...they won't be going back anytime soon. It wasn't a good experience.

People who think that the mall is a gathering place for thugs and miscreants should take a drive up to Westview Mall outside Baltimore, or even Security Mall just north of Baltimore.

Let's see... Last month, I had a friend get punched in the head as he was getting out of his vehicle in the Waldorf mall parking lot to go pick up his suit at the Men's store. This was between 9-10pm on a Thursday night. He chopped the second guy in the throat, got back into his vehicle, drove off and called the police.

That's not 2am like some people mentioned. He blamed himself for being in a hurry and not paying attention to the thugs hanging out in the parking lot.

Fortunately, this 30-something St. Mary's businessman knew how to handle himself in a bad situation and is in top shape to protect himself. Otherwise, this incident may have been another Waldorf Mall robbery, car-jacking, or worse.

Good for your friend. Yeah, I still go to the mall but I always stay alert to the slick willie's hangin out in & around the parking lot. I must say that I think the cops/security guards do a pretty good job of patroling the area though. It's such a bad thing though, it would be alot easier if their parents (if they are underaged) would be more involved in their lives.

I personally think the consumers should start putting more pressure on the store owners & the mall owners to turn things around. I don't think they are too bad now, but it could go that way. It's in the best interest of the store owners & mall owner to stop it now. As consumers we should demand that. If it doesn't get better, more & more people will turn to the internet at a faster pace.

Let's see... when I lived up in Baltimore we had dozens of people stabbed by thieves outside of the malls. They would lie underneath a car, wait till the driver arrived, and then jam an 8-inch blade into their legs. When the driver fell the thief would grab watches, wallets, jewelry, etc., and take off. Sorry, but one attack doesn't impress me very much anymore. Also, anyone who goes anywhere near a shopping center at 9:00-10:00 at night and doesn't pay attention to what's going on around them is running a risk. And lastly, I doubt a blitz attacker like this is some teenager hanging out at the food court. More likely he's a fairly exerienced criminal.

I agree ... I have only lived in southern maryland for about 18 months and have been to the mall in waldorf a few times, luckily I haven't seen any of the negatives I was warned about ( I usually go on a weekday ) but the problems bring to mind what happened to the mall in my hometown years ago . My mom and I enjoyed many hours shopping there when I was in high school and for baby clothes years later after I was married , had my son and visited ... till we noticed a definite change in clientele - namely young adults and teenagers who seemed to be just "hanging out" being rowdy and disruptive . A new mall was being built in the " more desirable" part of town at this time and many people said something should be done about the crowds of kids just loitering but nothing was ... and sure enough many stores started pulling out of the mall, leasing space in the new mall and eventually a few of the anchors did the same . It didnt take long before the mall went downhill from there and was closed ( and bulldozed ) I just thought it was sad to see when it surely could have been avoided ... the new mall discourages loitering with security guards ( these guys were 6'5 250 lbs lol ) patrolling inside and out 24/7 ( we saw them politely approach groups of kids sitting around and letting them know if they weren't shopping they needed to leave soon ... and they did )

We were thinking some sort of gang activity. Go bash the clean cut looking dude and see what you come up with just to prove you're down with the homies... Some initiation maybe?

Southern Maryland doesn't have to worry about a new mall because our zoning won't allow that in any of the three counties. But you would think that the mall managers and merchants would pay to have a presence of off-duty Charles County sheriff's cruising the parking lot instead of that little security truck with the yellow lights! Heck, Wildewood Center pays for security so folks can be safe there after dark, and the merchants can close without a stickup or a mugging...

True, the mall isn't as bad as other malls closer to cities such as Washington or Baltimore, yet. It's already starting in that direction, however. I remember as a child, we used to shop at Iverson Mall in Marlow Heights all the time. It was a nice mall in the 70s and early 80s. By the 90s, I wouldn't be caught dead there. The crime that was in Washington expanded to the suburbs. Now it is extending further out as people try to move further away to escape the crime. If nothing is done at Waldorf, within the next 5 to 10 years it could very well become as bad as an Iverson or Security Mall.

As for Waldorf being Southern Maryland, it may be physically located in Southern Maryland, but has nothing in common with the region. If it wasn't for the Mattawoman Creek and the signs indicating P.G. County, it would be difficult to tell the difference between Waldorf and P.G. County. Waldorf no longer has the charm or character of Southern Maryland. Personally, I would no longer consider it Southern Maryland. Waldorf's traffic has the charm of Northern Virginia, and soon the crime of Prince George's County.

But it's "charmingly ghetto" BuddyLee....hwyman ain't Security Mall fun? lol

Yeah but the retards that hang out side the food court and think they are the sh!t get really mad and loud when you make fun of them, Especially the gothic ones that sit over in the corner and peek out from behind the Snapple machine. They have some kind of new rule that supposedly runs the little "groups" out of there. Personally, the most annoying thing about that mall is those dumbasses that wait at the top of the escallator and ask you if you want to take a 2 hour survey for 5$. F them.
