True, the mall isn't as bad as other malls closer to cities such as Washington or Baltimore, yet. It's already starting in that direction, however. I remember as a child, we used to shop at Iverson Mall in Marlow Heights all the time. It was a nice mall in the 70s and early 80s. By the 90s, I wouldn't be caught dead there. The crime that was in Washington expanded to the suburbs. Now it is extending further out as people try to move further away to escape the crime. If nothing is done at Waldorf, within the next 5 to 10 years it could very well become as bad as an Iverson or Security Mall.
As for Waldorf being Southern Maryland, it may be physically located in Southern Maryland, but has nothing in common with the region. If it wasn't for the Mattawoman Creek and the signs indicating P.G. County, it would be difficult to tell the difference between Waldorf and P.G. County. Waldorf no longer has the charm or character of Southern Maryland. Personally, I would no longer consider it Southern Maryland. Waldorf's traffic has the charm of Northern Virginia, and soon the crime of Prince George's County.
