St Marys Hospital

Got a letter from the hospital yesterday that read, in short, someone stole a lap top from the hospital with patients SSNs etc, on it. We are taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Why could they not have foreseen that it's not a good idea to put that kind of info on a laptop?

Great! That will be like the third case, that I know of, that my info. may have been stolen in the past year or so.

Didn't get a letter yet but everyone in my family has been there with in the last couple years.

Date on the letter was January 26th or 27th, I believe, and we got the letters on the 5th of February, so it took more than a week for them to get them out. That pizzes me off, also.

Could this be a scam to get your info? Call the number they gave as the National ID Recovery and they will help you for free? Give us your SSN and we'll see if it pops up as being used somewhere else? I think I'll call the Hosp. and see if they actually sent these out.

Received the same thing. Don't worry there was no financial info on these lap tops. Hello, what about my SS#, birthdate and address? I will keep a close watch and see if anything happens. Hubby was pissed about the time it took to mail as well.

T (8 y/o) and I both got letters on Monday, not sure why I got one other than being the insurance holder. Hubby didn't get one:ohwell:

If they asked for you SSN, then you should call the hospital and see if in fact this actually happened. Sounds like a scam to me.

Exactly, what financial info could be harmful? Its not like I used M/C for anything there. The big danger is identity theft.

Be sure to post if you do, I'd like to see if it actually happened. Too many scammers out there today and so many ways to scam people.

Waiting for a call back from the hosp. now. The operator knew what I was talking about so I guess I'm not the only one bugging them.

It's not a scam, I called them yesterday and they verified the letter. I called the paralegal and she just asked me for names and addresses. She did not ask for SS#'s. I also warned my family about this as they hadn't gotten a letter about it, but I knew they had been to the hospital in the past. :howdy:
