Does my butt look big?
As a kid living in the keys I remember swimming with them..one day at a friends house we were jumping off the bridge into the water and swimming to the beach to get out of the water...A friends father (who lived where the beach was) was just walking in the water at the beach..he stepped on a ray..I still to this day can picture that man screaming..he screamed and screamed must be horrible pain.. :frown:

I know a man here who got stung by a skate in the Wicomico, and damn near died.

Nothing to be taken lightly.

Where the southern shore of the Rappahanock river meets the bay is Stringray point.
Named because John Smith stepped on a stringray there. He almost died, but the natives took him around the point on the northern bank of the Rappahanock and up a small tributary where a plant grew that would counteract the effects of the ray's sting.
That is now known as Antipoison Creek

...where it says whether the ray lived or died. Another misleading, sensationalist headline!

:lmao:

:yeahthat:

My thoughts exactly...I was under the impression that skates do not have a "stinging mechanism" (as in...they don't have the barbs, or toxins, ect)...

Skate actually don't have the toxins or barbs or Debs or Meg's. :lmao:
Sorry...... Skate are "cousins" for lack of a better term; of the Sting Ray/Eagle Ray.

Hey, I just remembered something from the Discovery Channel.
