This is the kind of sh!t the mental institutions were there for. Mental is mental, whether it's a natural imbalance or self induced psychosis due to drug abuse. These people need treatment, not coddling. They need to be separated from society to get the help they need, not plopped down in a residential area that people expect to be safe. I can remember when they were located far out from population centers and they didn't cause any problems with normal folks.
There was a mental institution across the street from my high school back in the 80’s. It was common to see people walking down the sidewalk with a blank stare in their eyes.

I agree they don’t need coddling and need treatment, not the enabling we see today especially with people who think they are another gender. If you have a prostate you are a man.

Yep..that was phreddy. We'd hold his hands...help him cross the street..wipe the drool off his chin. It was a kinder gentler time.

Taking away someone else's rights to satisfy your cravings is basically wrong. Whenever you take from one to give to another you are enriching one and stealing from the other. A typical liberals view is just to ignore this. Hence you are a liberal.
Cravings? Not wanting my rights to enjoy the property I bought taken away from me isn't a craving, its a right. Funny how your rights are sacrosanct, but mine are only cravings. Sounds more like a liberal mindset to me. Why do you consider society deciding that you may not do certain things in certain areas stealing, but you deciding that you can breed pigs next to my house not stealing from me by deciding I cannot live there.
Now, were to be breeding your pigs in an agricultural area and I moved in and demanded you needed to shut down, the shoe would be on the other foot.

If you don't like the society you live in, go find another one.

I recommend India or Pakistan for his new society.

In my experience, and some of you know what that is, those that complain the most about their "property rights" being taken away are the first ones to raise a fuss if something they didn't want would be planned for next door to them.

Some of the above was partly why the Counties and the State had to adopt Right To Farm laws.

Just amazing how many who think they are conservatives, suddenly become liberals as soon as property rights are discussed. You rant and rave about government interference then you roll over because you may be affected in ways not pertinent to your agendas. I love hypocrites they are so easy to be made uncomfortable and then expose themselves!

I followed this story very closely. This non profit goes out and buys cheap property in a very rural location that is zoned rural residential for less than 10% of what it would cost to buy similarly commercially zoned property. Then they grease the skids of the local politicians to force through a zoning appeal to rezone property to commercial zoning so they can cut down 50 acres of forestland to build the equivalent of an 18 suite hotel. The politician's and non profit hid this from the residents of St. Mary’s for over a year and then give notice about this project 24 hours before the only community meeting. And when people started looking under the covers of the non profit, the project was shut down very quickly. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the commissioners finds himself being primaried over this issue.

The rest of the story....
Helps explain why they withdrew the project so quickly once exposed.

If they were going to do this and needed a Special Exception or a text amendment change in allowable uses there would be some very strict and explicit requirements for Public Hearings, advertisements for them, and notification of adjoining property owners. Those are State mandated requirements and the MD Department of Planning gets very (judicially) testy if local jurisdictions don't follow them.

They were on the agenda of planning and zoning appeals board for a May 22 vote on the zoning change before They pulled back because of the community backlash. I suspect they got word that the vote was not going to go their way. They have since lawyered up. This fight is far from over.
