Student Tasered at Kerry speech

Ubi bene ibi patria
GAINESVILLE - U.S. Sen. John Kerry's speech at the University of Florida came to a dramatic close Monday, shortly after a vocal audience member was hauled off by police and shot with a Taser gun.

The audience member was preliminarily identified by UF officials as Andrew Meyer, a UF student in the College of Journalism and Communications.

Toward the conclusion of Kerry's UF forum, Meyer approached an open microphone at the University Auditorium and demanded Kerry answer his questions. The student claimed that University Police Department officers had already threatened to arrest him, and then proceeded to question Kerry about why he didn't contest the 2004 presidential election and why there had been no moves to impeach President Bush.

This is more excitement than anything Kerry generated during the campaign itself.

That can't be possible. Democrats are the party of free speech, completely unfettered. Remember how crazy they went when some protesters were evicted from a Bush rally?

Forestal, check in. Tell them that Democrats don't silence protesters.

You can't really SEE him get it, but by the whimpers he let out, I'm sure he did.:lmao:

They don't, unless those cops were all Dems.

Someone gave the order - cops wouldn't just act arbitrarily in a situation like that. Plus, I didn't notice John Kerry coming in the defend the guy. OR answer his questions, I might add.

And the guy obviously got zapped, judging by the audio. You hear him going, "Stop! Don't taser me!" then a loud scream by the guy, and the crowd starts going wild.

Wild as in cheering the police?

Or wild as in angry at this disgusting abuse of power?

I only saw a little of the footage, and the crowd reaction was apathetic at best.

This entire incident is sickening.

From what I've heard of the questions this guy was asking, I am led to believe that he was a far left wing nutjob, but he still didn't deserve to be tased and humiliated for asking a couple of (dumbass) questions. I wonder if the ACLU is going to get in on this action.

I believe all far left wing nuts should be tasered at least once a day. :yay:

I think the crowd reaction was mixed, some were cheering (it is a bit funny) but then others were complaining, and you and hear some saying "what did he do" and for them to "stop" (tasering him).

Well, you know what they say:

There's a fine line between electroshock therapy and police brutality.

I don't think this had much to with John Kerry himself, who did respond to the question after the ruckus had calmed down.

I feel the same way that I did when it was Bush getting the business. If this was a private speaking engagement, the guy was being disruptive and should have been shut down. Tasering him was a bit much, but this guy has no right to start going off and spoil it for everyone else. They went there to hear Kerry speak, not this nimrod.
