Well I'm sure that's fine, there's nothing raw in a cali. roll. Have you ever had a fried cali. roll? :yum:

Nope can't say that I have. I'll have to wait until after baby gets here. The roll didn't settle to well with me.

Maybe that's what I'll have my first night home!!!! :yum:

Why not make your own. Very easy to do all ingredients are locally available. Then you can control exactly what is in the roll.

I want to make some. I've seen the sushi rice and seaweed in the stores but I'm not sure where I should be the fish. It obviously has to be fresh...Nicks of Clinton, Safeway...I don't know. Is is "sushi-grade" there??

Asahi is in St. Mary's right? I've been there but it's just like Sakura, nothing really "special" ya know. I'm sure for a good quick bite it's great but I'm from Waldorf and would probably just go to Sakura. I'm looking for like, rice paper walls and floor seating and stuff...
There is a great place in Waldorf right on Rt5 called Kodori Grill ...it is mainly Korean, but the Sushi and Seaweed salad are super. One thing I do miiss after moving here from Wheaton and Rockville were the great and affordable Sushi bars. Barring that, having lived in Hawaii for a number years, sushi was plentiful, good and cheap. Sigh..those were the days.....

You can use the fake crabmeat strips.

Oga's in downtown Leonardtown is very good. And there is nothing wrong with their buffet. The chef puts out fresh sushi throughout the afternoon and will even make more if you show up just before the end of the lunch buffet hours. Excellent food and really nice people.

Okada... for BIG fat pieces

And Asahi is pretty damn good.

Okada doesn't marinate the rice as well. Asahi is japanese for "rip off". If you want really great sushi go to Oga's in downtown Leonardtown. I recomend the Nigiri Deluxe plate. Peter, the sushi chef will make what you want to order if its not on the menu, rest assured it probably on the menu.

In my house, Sushi is a family affair, we all love making it and eating it. Just the other day my son came home with a piece of paper from school. Drawn on it was a green circle, thick white ring, some green and orange dots in the middle. He said, "mom, we had to draw our favorite food" I asked what his teacher said about his favorite food, "she said not many kids she knows likes sushi"

There's a little sushi carryout in my building here at work, but I've only tried the tuna/avocado roll. I love that. I'm scared to try the other stuff. I can deal with raw tuna but not sure about the other stuff.

Now why on Earth would I do that? I want sushi, ya know...raw fish, not fake-me-out crab meat

LOL...it was an alternative. I don't know what the name of the store is, but it's right across the way from the Friendly Tavern...a small oriental shop and they sell fish on wooden blocks that is normally used in Won Ton Min and can be an alternative also.
Other than that, I made the trek up to Cross Street Market in Baltimore and bought about a pound of Yellow fin, that is sitting in my freezer waiting for me to have sashimi or make California rolls (wife's favorite):howdy:
