You must be the foster dog greeter - Boxy sends his regards :howdy:

Hi Ark, I had this sweet boy last weekend for an overnite trial stay. My husband and I fell in love with him right away, however, my granddog didnt feel the same way. Broke my heart to have to give him back. We may try another trial but this time with a female. My granddog is a male and seems to get along better with the opposite sex lol

Does this mean that you might give Boxy a try? Sorry Ark, for jumping in, but that would be so nice if you could. OOPS..I forgot that Boxy is a Male.

I would love to give Boxy a try, but yikes,....he's a male. King has already expressed his opinion, very loudly, on having another male in the house, (besides PopPop) that is. LOL. I did meet Boxy briefly, he seemed very sweet.

Yup he's a HE. I think the hard part comes with boys getting along with boys more than boys with girls or girls with girls. Although I recall when we introduced the new male rescue Rottie to our resident dominant Rottie female, and we did the introductions slow, and thought we did well, until we put them in the yard together and he wanted to be in charge, so she promptly kicked his butt. The fight sounded awful, but when it was over they were just wet from saliva and no one was bleeding thankfully.

If you get your boy placed, would you mind helping us find Boxy a good foster or permanent home? I feel bad that he doesn't have a permanent family to cling to, you know?

I've had Boxy now for 2 1/2 months, and whoever gets him will also be getting a great dog.

Well, if I could be of help, I would try. But keep in mind that, as of this moment, I have succesfully placed zero dogs.

I have gotten a lot of questions & positive feedback on this sweetie by posting pictures and perhaps of more value, the videos. I got the idea after receiving several questions asking how he was with children, other pets, etc. By specifically recording these situations, I'm hoping to give potential adoptors a feel for the dogs energy level, temperment, and how he might react in a stressful situation (i.e. his chance meeting with Truck the cat.)

Well we have pretty much determined that based on Boxy's energy level, he would do best with active adults. He appears to be well trained in obedience (and he's so darned smart) that I believe he would do very well in agility competitions. He looks at me with a puzzled face sometimes as if he's trying to understand what I am saying. He has an exceptionally loveable personality.

Otherwise, he could be a frisbee dog or jogging/walking partner? He would be a great dog for someone looking for an active dog. He can be strong and tries to dart after other critters/people sometimes when walking on the leash. I have handled large dogs all my life, so I know to keep a good grip on the leash. He will respond to verbal commands to stop his forward motion (instead of playing tug of war with the leash). In time I am sure some of his impulse reactions would subside. He is young, and a boxer breeder who saw him last week said he may even get bigger in size (about 60 lbs now) and that he's likely around 12-18 months old right now.

He found a home

Just wanted to let everyone following this story know that Lucky has found a home. We have a 10.5 year old female lab and three kids. Lucky gets along with everyone. We were a little nervous since our dog has never been around other dogs but after she let him know who was boss, it has been great. It works since he's submissive. He is very gentle with the kids too. He still has some pup in him so is naturally playful and energetic - just what our lab needed. She has played more in last two days than she has in a LONG time. Anyway, like I said just dropping a quick note to let you know that we are the 'lucky' ones for meeting this little guy. He is the sweetest, most lovable dog and yes those eyes will melt your heart. We especially got some laughs last night when he was at back door growling and barking - our lab is not a barker so we were wondering what he was seeing - only to realize he was growling at his own reflection :) Thanks to those who invested themselves in giving this loving guy a second chance!

Oh Wonderful!!!! I know about him growling at his own reflection, he did that when he had him over the weekend. So funny. Sounds like he found paradise with kids and other "friendly" dogs to play with. Thanks for letting him into your hearts and home. He is definitely a "Lucky" boy.:yahoo:

Good for you! :yahoo: I noticed with our old hound dog when he was alive that whenever we brought a new fur baby into the house it gave him another purpose. He had to play and show them the ropes and rules of the house. I bet your lab loves the company! Enjoy!

Sorry this took so long but...

Yes, it is with great joy (and sadness) that we are celebrating the fact that the lovable pooch we've been following in this thread has found his permanent home. He is with a very nice family in Leonardtown. He has every thing he could possibly want, kids to play with, a big yard and an older mentor to teach him the ropes of being a great family dog. The mood around home has been rather melancholy since he left, but we are so happy he landed where he did.
For our last day with him we went to the beach. I believe it was his first time experiencing the sand & water. HE WAS IN HEAVEN!. He ran and played and jumped and dug until he was so pooped he just plopped down in the sand and crashed out. To see some great pics of our last day at the beach, click the link below to view my slideshow.

Thanks again to all of you who kept this thread alive long enough to get him adopted.

Love the Pics Bill. I'm so happy you were able to place him in such a great home. He looks so happy on the beach, I thought he would be a water lover. I think he has some Yellow Lab and possibly boxer in him. You and KDenise did a great job for this handsome boy. :yahoo::flowers:

He might eventually become a water lover but he was really aprehensive. He kept waiting for his ball to wash back to the shoreline before he would tip toe into the the water to retrieve it. When he first stepped onto the stand he froze for a minute, looked up at me and then started pawing at it. He seemed amazed at the texture of it. It was a wonderful thing to see. What was really funny was when waves from passing boats would come in, he would run about 50 feet away and bark at the waves until they subsided. All in all I would say he had a blast. Both he and the boys were asleep in the car within 3 minutes after leaving.

Thanks for checking in on him. It was a pleasure to meet you and your hubby (and King of course).
