Tasered, bitten by police dog-wrong guy

Why do people always post crap out of context?? As soon as I read the title, flags went up.
According to police, Morris ignored police commands. Morris is a student at Smyrna High School. His mother says he didn't hear police because he was listening to his iPod.
If I'm listening to an Ipod and I see a cop pointing something at me and shouting, you can bet your ass I'm going to ditch the Ipod & get the hands in the air.

Sorry the guy was tazed but there's more than meets the eye here.

...mike.

A subject is expected to obey all commands of the 'authorities'.

A citizen has the right to be secure in their person and property and a right to a presumption of guilt, oops, innocence, until proven otherwise. As they had the wrong man, the cops had NO right to accost him or attempt to arrest him and certainly not to assault him.

So, it's a simple question of whom you see the burden placed on; the government or the citizen. I seem to have misplaced my copy of the constitution. You don't appear to have it.

I'm tiring of ill trained, undisciplined cops wrongly tazing people, shooting dogs, arresting little old ladies, yelling at people and threatening arrest and claiming extra judicial powers right up to the point where they see the camera and all around acting like we live in a police state. They stain the good officers and make an already tough job tougher needlessly so and they trample on the rights of the citizens whose laws they are sworn to protect and execute. The laws. Not the citizens of which they also are.

Then again Larry, how can you blame the cops when you have citizens like Mike supporting and making excuses for their actions.

I wholeheartedly dissagree the cop had no right to attempt arresting him. The kid fit the description of the perp right down to the clothes. The kid ignored commands. It was an honest mistake on the cops part.

The story is greatly lacking detail. If a video suddenly "appears" showing the kid dutifully obeyed every command or had his back turned while bee bopping away and was still tazed, then not only will I join, but I'll lead your crusade.

This just does not add up and we don't have enough info to blame either the cop or the kid.

Then again Larry, how can you blame the cops when you have citizens like Mike supporting and making excuses for their actions.
That's right Push, I do and will continue to support the po po. I did not make excuses for anyone. Please stick to facts and do not spin, twist or put words in my mouth. TIA

Information is a little sketchy. If I were an officer facing a person wearing an IPOD and giving commands , I believe my first move would be to physically remove the IPOD from his head myself. Now the suspect was believed to be armed so I assume the officer was cautious about that, but still the officer had a dog and a gun and a taser and probably was not alone. Was the officer confronting this man, in uniform? I doubt the attempt was made without backup although the article doesnt mention it. Did he identify himself and assure himself the person he was speaking to was fully aware of his presence and that he was speaking to him? These things we dont know, If the man was aware the officer was arresting him and still chose to ignore the officer , the taser might have been warranted, but why let the dog loose on him? Too many questions, not enough answers.

...shocked a person and had his dog bite them and all you can say is honest mistake. Great.

As far as dutifully obeying, have we not seen enough evidence of cops breaking the law to warrant any concern on your part?

I am a total cop supporter. Good cops. The ones that make the extra effort to analyze situations, to use good judgement. If this goon doesn't recognize Ipod nation exists, then he needs more training.

The benefit of the doubt is supposed to go to we, the people. Not the government. This guy probably got totally pizzed that the peon didn't recognize his status as God and let him have it.

...why I propose teaching the constitution in every school, both k-12 and in trade schools, colleges and, especially, in law schools and police academy's.

That way, people like you won't be saying "had we only taught them this beforehand this would have never happened..."

You're not over that speeding ticket are you? :lmao:

Larry,

With the little information you have from the article, you have tried, convicted and hung this cop. Astounding!!

And you're calling for law and order??? :killingme Gadzooks man!!! What happened to you??

Yes, I have concern. Like I said, I will lead your crusade if the officer is proven guilty in a court of law. Until then, you and I see this with opposite point of views.

...I got over the speeding ticket when I got wrote up for negligent operation on the lake last summer and he hit me up for $85 each because my DADS fire extinguisher and my DADS horn didn't pass muster. :lmao:

The difference between you and me is while we both tried and convicted; I went after the cop. You went after the citizen. The one who got tazed and bit. The one who had done nothing wrong unless you are a police state person who thinks we work for the officers, not the other way round.

People like me? And I happen to think it's people like you jump to conclusions making a cops impossible job more impossible. I'm not defending this cops actions. I'm also not defending this kid's actions. I don't have enough facts to do either. You obviously do.... somewhere in your head.

...Mike and I can have a disagreement without your help, pal. :buddies:

He made his conclusion, I made mine. Shall we all play deaf mute until after the trial out of fear someone will introduce this tread as evidence? Or do you think it's OK to talk about it?

Ummm... Larry I am talking about it. Now you are trying to shut me down because....................? I disagree with you and I am stating it freely as an American. "I propose teaching the constitution in every school, both k-12 and in trade schools, colleges and..." well you get the point right? You know free speech and all that? Oh crap, what do I know.

...you said you don't like the jumping to conclusions. Well, what is there to say if we can't draw conclusions to fill in with what we've been told?

This person got electrocuted and bitten by an attack dog and he's done nothing. I tend to think the cop over reacted. Apparently he had on ear phones and officer Friendly got a bit aggressive, dontcha think?

Jump to a conclusion, man!

First of all we haven't really been TOLD anything.

Okay, here is a conclusion. Derrick Morris was wearing a heavy coat, iPod plugged in to ears. Cops approach suspect and demand the kid to put his hands up and get on his knees. Derrick Morris stares at cops wondering what's going on. Keeps his hands in his pockets. Cops don't see iPod but see Derrick Morris ruffling around in his pocket (perhaps trying to shut his iPod off). Cops assume (because they have a report that perp was armed) Derrick Morris is reaching for his gun. Cops draw tasers (when they could have drawn their guns) and sick dog in order to avoid further violence and injury to others. Using a some restraint if you ask me.

You're not a cop are you Larry? Maybe you should spend a month in their shoes. You might learn something beyond your narrowly defined parameters of the constitution like being secure in your person (as in others around the scene that could get hurt or even killed). THAT is their responsibility. That is my conclusion.
