The Letter of 138 Muslim scholars to the Pope and Christian Leaders

"Beirut (AsiaNews) – The Letter by 138 Islamic academics to the Pope and Christian leaders is a first positive step towards dialogue, which however needs to become more universal and more concrete.

The letter lies in the explicit context of an extension of the first letter, sent exactly one year ago to Benedict XVI, as a reply to his masterful address at Regensburg University: the same date was chosen for its publication (13th October 2007), which this year coincided with the end of Ramadan[1]"

Hmmm... Just a few reminders to keep in mind when engaging in the "first postive step towards dialogue" with the Islamic leaders:

Muhammad: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I am commanded to fight with men till they testify that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Apostle, face our qiblah (direction of prayer), eat what we slaughter, and pray like us. When they do that, their life and property are unlawful for us except what is due to them. They will have the same rights as the Muslims have, and have the same responsibilities as the Muslims have." (Sunan Abu-Dawud, Book 14, Number 2635, Narrated Anas ibn Malik)

Hadith: "It has been narrated by 'Umar b. al-Khattib that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and will not leave any but Muslim."
(Sahih Muslim Book 019, Number 4366)

"It's inevitable. Because several (attacks) are being prepared by several groups," Sheikh Omar Bakri Muhammad told Lisbon's Publica magazine from London where he is based. He added: "We don't make a distinction between civilians and non-civilians, innocents and non-innocents. Only between Muslims and unbelievers! And the life of an unbeliever has no value. It has no sanctity!.

Seems all these statements came from Muslim sources, so, I ask, who is promulgating hate? I state that it is not Starman3000m but those that made the original statements.

yeah, but the article in the first post was very positive. Who came in to remind everyone that some are bad?

I could if you want, find statements by christians saying bad things to and about muslims. We all know they exist. Same with muslims to christians .... but why take a good article and gesture of faith and piss on it?

edit: it's like starman took delight in pointing a finger and saying oh yeah oh yeah well look look

I note the hipocracy (sp?) but will also point out that christians are supposed to be on the forgiving side.

:buddies:

Thus in obedience to the Holy Qur’an, we as Muslims invite Christians to come together with us on the basis of what is common to us, which is also what is most essential to our faith and practice: the Two Commandments of love.

I anxiously wait to hear the response from the Pope Benedict. I expect you'll be keeping an eye out for it?

Yeah-yeah-yeah....

I'm sure you could - and that would solve....?

Please note that some of us view the original message as something positive. How about we focus on that.

edit: oh, I see what you're saying

I know the article is positive, but I'll still make note of those who wish to condemn without giving a chance.

I wasn't referring to you specifically.

I was actually referring to the derailment in the first response.

Starman - if someone offers you an olive branch - are you really going to slap it out of their hand?

WWJD?
And you know I'm not asking that question to be a sarcastic ass.

I think (I may be wrong.) that Starman3000m was pointing out that we must be wary of wolves in sheep's clothing. I have read that the Islamists' eleventh commandment is "Thou shall not lie or dissimilate (tagyyeh), deceive or cheat (ketman) unless they serve a higher purpose." If that is the case, then the Muslim response, as warm and fuzzy as it may be, may just be a smoke screen.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't accept the offering of peace.

I say we should embrase them as brothers.

And should the day ever come (God forbid) that they stab us in the back, just remember that we have about a jillion nuclear bombs.

again, so blinded by his wish to hate he didn't read the article

Thank you for your judgment of my motives. You are totally wrong, but it did not stop you from maligning me.

I do not hate. As a Christian, I have learned from the Bible that I am to love even my enemies.
Matthew 5:43-45

43"You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.'

44"But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

45so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Sorry you understand so little of real Christendom that you make grossly inaccurate assumptions.

exactly, their meaasage is that we believe in the same god, so lets unite under that understanding.
what is so wrong with that?
