I almost bought the 51 " slim projection tv. It was not like the standard thick tvs. I was so close then I asked the guys at best buy to put the LCD beside it and there was no question. I went for picture quality over size. I mean the 51" was like $900 and the 32" I got was $1500... Funny thing about buying the xbox 360 right now is that there are only about 10 games out and 9 of them suck. I will wait until something comes out that I like and then I will buy one.
As for tv's. I have the 40" sony bravia lcd widescreen tv. Its only 720p, but it still looks great when playing dvd's and high res games. Unfortunately, the picture looks like crap with metrocast cable. I went from a 25" crt to the 40" and boy do all the signal imperfections jump out at you.

I have the basic digital package ($8 something a month extra). It has a bunch of discovery channels, digital scifi, pay per view, and digital music stations. Digital does not equal high definition though. A couple of the channels are high definition, but they are not channels I watch. And most of the channels are still analog (everything below 80).
I believe metrocast offers an HD package. But once again, its only a few channels and none I am interested in.
