The worst case of judicial activism...

Sonsie

The mighty Al-Sonsie!
This young man wanted to leave a foster home situation, where the state was presumably paying to keep him, and become a self-sufficient member of society in an honorable profession. This judge allowed her personal feelings to interfere and is keeping this young man in limbo. This decision would have freed him, released the state from paying for his keep, and allowed him to join the adult world and receive a nice little nest egg to jump start his new life. This judge was dead wrong.

There is no difference in a judge deciding for a foster then a parent for their child. My problem is that the judge based her decision on her personal beliefs about the war not on the capacity of this kid to make a decision for himself.

I'm sure no parent ever told their kid NO, because of their personal beliefs
This is really a non-issue. When the kid turns 18, he can legally do what he wants.

You may expect that kind of response from some parents, you do not, on the other hand expect that from a judge! A judge is suppose to be impartial and make decisions by rule of law. She was wrong in many ways.

I must make this an issue. If I don't think about this issue then I will be forced to contend with the fact that it is NOT 7:46 AM. It is indeed only 6:46 and I don't want to be awake. DST sucks big ballz!

Was that a little OT

:yeahthat:

Emphasis on KID. He's in the foster care system therefore the court is his "parent". This individual judge's motivation aside, how many times has this come up in court, and how many times have 17 year old foster kids been told to just keep their shirt on and wait until their birthday, and how many have been allowed to enlist? This would not have made news if not for the judges not-so-well chosen comments.
