I've had mix reviews with this joke......but for everyone, it IS a joke.
Where do I start...
All I can say is that it is a natural disaster and unless science missed teaching me something I don't think it targets black people (which must have been the majority of residents in the disaster areas).
I do believe that the media is getting hip to certain tactics. I also believe, that all who do not like Bush would have used any excuse to point out his inability to be the president. This in no way stands as a personal defense for him.
In addition, I believe it was wrong for all who made it a black/white thing to put that on the surface. That includes Kanye West and the Black Caucus as well as the evacuees.
I do personally believe that the government ignores the poor (which the majority are black). However, I do not think that was totally the case. I think poor planning is what made the devastation greater. If you are going to make an evacuation mandatory, then you should make a way for people to get out ahead of time. That's the main mistake in all of this, followed by the non-repairs on the levees.
In addition, I think that you can not expect people to be grateful when they are dying, hungry and completely devastated. I worked the hotline for the health department and there were grateful people but they were all more stable (i.e. not in the heat of devastation with the news cameras on them).
Yes, I do believe that white people were "ignored" for a lack of a better word. I think that the racist comments over Katrina opened a door that truly needs not be opened. I am just grateful that it did not stop white people from giving as well as volunteering to help.
Lastly, only in America (where racism was historically the greatest) can the effects of a natural disaster become about blacks versus whites. The race card can always be played. Whether there is truth to it or not, is totally irrelevant, it's forever the trump in the American Game. Just like the "You're an adult he/she's a child" and "You're a man, she's a woman" or "You are bigger than he/she is".
So, it's done, let's not focus on it as individuals, because it will become a forefront in our thinking, feelings, life. Look at this thread...
