I agree. This part was offensive. I think i would make a great story, but alas I am white.

I 'm not touching this...

This has gotten way too ugly and has deviated far from a joke, as Citygirl predicted.
Rack'em posted what was obviously an indictment on the media's biased coverage. I wouldn't call it a joke - as in "ha ha" - I would call it a wry observation. Citygrl took his comments at face value and saw racism where there was none.

Lastly, only in America (where racism was historically the greatest) can the effects of a natural disaster become about blacks versus whites.
This is only partially true. Yes, the US is overly obsessed with race, but the black people in South Africa would probably disagree that racism is worse here than it is there.

I agree wholeheartedly with the rest of your post.

Vrai, why are you keeping the hostility going? I mean, I am starting to think you are the Queen of the Forums. If, you like the forums why not keep it friendly. This is out of hand and even the initiator isn't as rowdy about it as the instigator.

Citygirl, you speak your mind, just like they do. Don't run to no hole, shoot we pay taxes just like they do and have just as much right to speak our mind. The only difference is they are bringing division among everyone.

You're reading WAY too much into these posts.

I'm inferring from that post that you think Citygrl is a black woman who was offended by what she perceived as racist comments? She's actually white and she knows darn well that she can speak her mind, because she does it all the time.

Actually, I took her for a Yankee (ok that was a bad joke). No, I actually realized a little into my reading through this that it had happened Sept 20th. I am all late and digging up old bones.

But, I apologize if I came down on you. I just want things to go smoothly so like mama taught me if I want to get the bullies to stop picking on me I have to go after the billy badazz of the the bunch (i.e. vrai) lol just kidding.

I think it is cool that every feels free to speak as well but at the same time let's all make sure we remain friendly.

Lexi, if you think I'm the badazz of this bunch, you got a lot of reading to catch up on!

So Lexi, which is it? Queen or badazz? As for everyone remaining friendly:roflmao:

Where do I start...

I do personally believe that the government ignores the poor (which the majority are black). However, I do not think that was totally the case. I think poor planning is what made the devastation greater. If you are going to make an evacuation mandatory, then you should make a way for people to get out ahead of time. That's the main mistake in all of this, followed by the non-repairs on the levees.
Lastly, only in America (where racism was historically the greatest) can the effects of a natural disaster become about blacks versus whites. The race card can always be played. Whether there is truth to it or not, is totally irrelevant, it's forever the trump in the American Game. Just like the "You're an adult he/she's a child" and "You're a man, she's a woman" or "You are bigger than he/she is".
Wrong on both of these accounts.
#1 There are more "white" people living below the poverty line in the U.S.A. than any other racial group.
#2 I think "racism" can safely be said to not have been "greatest" historically in the U.S. than anywhere else on the planet. Look at Africa. They are killing each other every day over cultural differences. This has been going on for centuries, and will continue to go until there is world peace. Heck, who do you think provided the slaves to the slave traders? You think they meakly walked up and said "Here I am, chain me and transport me and make me a slave"? No! Black Africans from Tribe A would capture Black Africans from Tribe B and then sell them into slavery. This has gone on throughout history, in every society, among every racial and ethnic group there is. Heck, my first American ancestors (3 white dudes from Scotland) were sold into slavery in the Colonies by the British.

Wow, are you all sure I have to join a club to make friends in SoMD lol. I love all of the interaction, totally impressed.

However, I must admit when I think of racism today I no longer think of it as a power/control struggle like what Africa must be going through. I will admit I am not up on the Africa issues at all. So most of what you state, I can only say "hmm, oh yeah" and then wonder why I haven't learned more about Africa.

Little known secret is that some African born people who come to America don't really care for Black Americans and we know it. They think we are lazy, ungrateful, and weak and complain about stuff like it's so bad because they have had it worse or others are having it worse in Africa. Black Americans have a problem with how Africans speak in their own tongues around us because we KNOW they are talking about us. So there is some degree of racism there too. Isn't that sad?

But to include that continent would probably be a whole new thread. So, what I will say I meant is that the government will take their time when it comes to helping black people who are in need because of the stigma of most of the stereotypes we have as a people.

So it seems like in something as bad as this hurricane was we are still expected to "help ourselves and stop looking for a hand-out", white people did get pulled in with that but that is our government. I so did not know if the head of FEMA was white or black and the first thing I heard to make me wonder was Bush's comment "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job" I was like WTF.

And as far as more white people living below the poverty line well I do believe that if we classify each race there are more black poor people as a whole than white poor people in their whole since black people are less than 20% of the population.

Thanks Vrai (good looking out) and yeah, I see you as the or a top leader of the forums and most leaders normally will have proved themselves to be tough. I so WILL NOT go play catch up. I want to have fun on here. I love the intelligent conversations but at the same time I want to learn things about SoMD through the eyes of SoMders. Like last night I read about Crybaby Bridge. That was so scary to me but please dont share all the ghost stories because I will move lol.

Lexi, I think you're right that the government doesn't really care about poor people, and I'll tell you why:

They hain't got no money.

Money=campaign donations
Money=power

I, personally, don't care about poor people because of Izzy, the guy that does our yard. He came over to this country a few years ago from Guatemala, didn't speak a word of English, no job, no nothing - all he knew was Guatemala wasn't working out for him.

He started working for a lawn service and did that for a few years. Then he decided to start his own lawn service business. Today he has about 15 or 20 people working for him.

He is an American success story.

So if Izzy can come over here with absolutely nothing, can't even speak the language, and 5 years later he owns a thriving business employing others and has a nice house and a nice life, then anyone actually born in this country can certainly do the same.

It's all about "want to". Izzy "wants to" - these punks crying about their welfare don't.

Not to take away from Izzy Vrai but there are many American success stories.

For instance, I KNOW blacks have come a long way as far as the "handicapps" of coming in to your own in America, but I feel where you are going with that.

Izzy is what you know, Madam CJ Walker, George Washington Carver, Charles Drew, and Garrett A Morgan (past) and Terry McMillan, Denzel Washington, Camille and Bill Cosby and Oprah Winfrey (present) is what I know.

But regardless of who you are and where you have been, refusing to be held back regardless of what obstacles come your way is a success story so hats off to all who overcome. :peace:
