Time to grow up and put your guns away

...we're getting carried away. There are billions and billions who never have to deal with the burden and responsibilities of all kinds of freedoms.

very true.

also, and before I get called on it, I wasn't directly comparing nuclear winter to assault. I was comparing different types of preparedness.

True.

There are certain places on this planet I would not set foot unless I was packing heat.

But I feel safe without one here. :patriot:

So it's illogical for someone who has experienced a violent crime to not own a gun?

Is it unreasonable for me to feel safe in my own home sans a cache of firearms?

To even set foot outside without a CCW permit?

To dare think my brain and 5 senses will keep me safe 99.9% of the time?

If one chick with one gun blows away one would be rapist, that makes it all worth it to me.

Vegmom I've read your post.

Let me ask you though, would you of pulled the trigger on this guy if you had a gun in your hand and knowing what he was about to do to you?

I am not trying to prove a point either way with that question, just some people would not shoot anyone no matter what he circumstances.

If I had a gun within reach and knew exactly what he was about to do I'd at least have made him a eunich if not a corpse. I'm not afraid of guns and had actually fired one before (but I'm a :faint: liberal!).

But I did not know what was going to happen. I was overpowered enough that I would not have been able to struggle away, grab it, and fire. So short of answering the door pistol in hand, it would not have made a difference.

See below

are you prepared for nuclear winter?

an airplane falling on your car while you are driving it?

lemmings devouring you arms?

there are billions and billions of people on the planet that never have to deal with this, and while that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be prepared or even wary whilst walking down a dark ally in downtown gotham, it doesn't mean that billions of people desperatly need a loaded handgun.

She already told us about her particular encounters and the fact that having a gun wouldn't have helped her in either situation.

edit: belittling her won't change facts, but it does make you look like a jerk.

And you look like an idiot for putting words in my mouth. Where did I even hint that owning a gun was the end-all-be-all of self defense? Where did I even hint that a gun would've saved her? I asked a very simple and precise question, even broke it down, and all I got was dancing around the bush, vague rhetorical BS. Happens all the time when people can't back a conclusion reached by emotion with logic.

So... Commenting and trying to argue when you didn't even bother to read my posts makes you what?

Xanquin, stop smoking "the pot"

Veghead, I agree, guns are not for everyone. You ruled out a gun, I acknowledged that and asked what precautions you do take. Perhaps you should take one of them thar "reeding compreehenshun classes" yourself. :ohwell:

"I learned how not to be a target"

Great stuff there.

Jesus Joseph and Mary

"Not an easy target" is one of the most common phrases used in all manner of public safety advice. No clue what that means?

"Eyes, ears, feet best weapons" didn't make it any clearer? You don't have the faintest notion what I meant there either?

Since what I was typing was not "making sense" I went so far as to post a link of search engine results.

Did either of you bother clicking? Quickly skimming the info on the pages that popped up should have answered your question.

Or do I have to type out lines and lines "in situation A always do B" for you to get it?

oh, this statement (made by you) wasn't belittling?

"We just chalk it up to more proof that logic and reason aren't your strong suits."

is .... is that a compliment?

hmmmm

also, I never said you said that owning a gun is the end-all be-all of self defense, so that's actually you putting words in my mouth.

but whatever.
