To the Moron on Webster Field

That ran me off of the road this morning. THANKS for stopping to see if I was OK... but THANKS the most for "working during your commute" and not actually DRIVING your car. Friggin MORON.

Not only did he come around the wrong side of the road because he was doing something else, he corrected (a little too late), and went right back to whatever it was he was doing in the passenger seat. Checking e-mail on your laptop maybe? Editing a Statement of Work?? TEXTING??

Yeah, seeing you come around the corner on MY side of the road really, REALLY made my day.

You should be thankful I wasn't driving the LR today, if I was I don't think I would have tried so hard to miss you.

Only crazy people ride on the street. In areas with known human activity.

People tend to drive a little casual on Webster so I have noticed. Glad it was just a close call.

I am so very blessed
Thank goodness you are an expert rider and were able to maneuver successfully away from this jackass.

I don't know what I'd do if something bad happened to you. :smoochy:

How much "off the road" was it? You didn't depart, did you?

I saw him coming across, and get over 1/2 way across the center line and at that point I had comitted to getting the hell out of his way. Before he even realized he was on the wrong side of the road (he NEVER acknowledged my existence, never even looked at me) I was already headed to the grass. I was doing about 35 - 40 at that point.

When he recovered I MIGHT have been able to lean over hard and stay on the road but I was too close to the edge, just decided to ride it out in the grass. Left the pavement, rolled in and out of the ditch at speed, about 100 feet or so LIGHT on the brakes and rolled to a stop in the farmers field.

One person that saw me sitting out there rolled his window down and asked if everything was ok. The person that ran me off the road? Never saw him again.

OK, two parter here; one, did it ever cross your mind to maybe go around him where he was supposed to be? And is that just a crazy idea to even consider?

My thought is if you've got NO bail on your side of the ride, solid trees, deep ditch, guardrail, etc, a place you just don't wanna go, and you can just 'feel' he doesn't see you, can you, with all your experience, make a reasonable case for an extreme case to go around him the other way?

I mean, he wakes up and suddenly corrects, your dead and it's now your fault but, I am asking if it should ever even be in the back of my mind as an option?

Any path that saves your butt is always an option. However, the chances of that particular path being both clear of oncoming behind the idiot, and you having the time and the sight line to knows it clear to break left are very slim. Would suck to miss the Neon and eat the dually behind it.

Just keep fighting, thats the key.

Yeah, that. :jameo:

I am assuming an awful lot, that you perceive he doesn't see, isn't going to AND that you instantly perceive that it's clear on the other side of him AND your radar tells you your side is simply not an option.

I'm trying to get into the mindset of you long time riders. Right now, my primary weapon is looking for open space and right hand, getting to that space, right now.

I drive a blue Neon :)
But I also know where you work on base and im on the other side so I know it wasnt me :buddies:

Was it near the turn next to your building where this happend? I have trucks come around that turn going 40-45 in MY lane because they are going too fast to take the turn in their lane.

Good to hear you were ok though.

Yep, what Aps refers to as positive speed displacement, or, in general terms, to misquote Cannonball Run "Whatsa behind me, cannot kill me!!!"

In specific terms, at any given red light, even half throttle on my Wimpstrom gets me out in front of the pack about 3-5 car lengths. Dont even need to speed. Its about the 0-50, or whatever the limit is. Once I get to that speed, I settle in, any stupid cager tricks are happening back there somewhere. I dont need to be going Mach 1, just be ahead of the pack. Like cattle, any cowboy knows you stay way in front, or way behind.

When bob said blue, I thought about asking you, all you Neon drivers know each other, right? :howdy:

Like was said, any exit path that avoids the accident is a good one. However, in a case like this, the first reaction of the other driver will be to pull back to the right and back into his lane. That would be the most likely probability and therefore the least desired option. Bob's was the right one, look forward, pick a path, keep control in a straight line out of harms' way.

I've thought about that option (pulling around to the driver's outside) on occasion, but have never seen a situation where it would have worked.

That makes sense to me. I wanted to hear it from you people who've dealt with this, (successfully) and what the mind set of a survivor is.

It's certainly something everyone should consider - which way to go? Stay in your lane or on your side of the road is my best guess?

A car full of people on Horsehead Road crossed the center line and was headed straight for me and all I had was a small shoulder lined with brush and trees that led to a ditch as an option.

I pulled as far over to the right as I could without hitting a tree (hoping they would correct and miss me). Good thing I did NOT go into their lane as the driver corrected, albeit a bit late, and side-swiped me and kept on going. That driver was likely drugged/drunk.

I didn't even bother to call the police as they were headed for the 5 way stop - NO telling which way they were going to be going. Happened so fast I didn't even know what kind of car it was.

I am really fed up with people getting away with crap like that. Glad you are ok Bob. We need you here to :elaine: for us on a regular basis :smoochy: .
