Toys for Tots rejects Jesus dolls

As a government entity, Marines "don't profess one religion over another," Grein said Tuesday. "We can't take a chance on sending a talking Jesus doll to a Jewish family or a Muslim family.

Oh the horror... :duh:

Isn't Toys for Tots a Christmas program? Jews and Muslims don't celebrate Christmas, so why would the toys be sent to those families?

Good point.

Maybe they didn't want them because they thought they were Mexican dolls. Jesus, ya know...

Just who's birthday do they think Christmas is a celebration of?
Wasn't it found somewhere that he really wasn't born that day? Or was it that the three kings didn't get there til later.

Much to confusing for me.

to an impoverished child, would it really make a difference if it was a Jesus, Muhommad or Abraham doll ?

The man's an idiot. Plain and simple. If you are offended by getting a Jesus doll for CHRISTmas, you shouldn't be celebrating CHRISTmas in the first place. I don't know where he is coming from that a doll that looks like Jesus wouldn't be fun for kids either. First class idiot.

I recently sent a cash contribution to Toys for Tots. I will remember this next year when they ask for a donation and trash their request.

I've always wondered why most depictions of Jesus appear to be of a California surfer dude instead of a desert dweling Jewish male that most likely never saw a bath tub or a comb.

Jesus was probably born in the Spring, but somewhere in history, probably around the 4ht century, December 25th was selected as the day to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I'm sure it had something to do with Saturnalia also being celebrated at that time of year.

The point is, it is only recent history, since the 1960's or so, that people have been trying to take Jesus out of Christmas. Without Jesus, there is no Christmas, Christ Mass, the mass to celebrate the Christ.

Wal*Mart found out that many Christians refused to patronize them when they substituted Seasons Greetings for Merry Christmas. I think Toys for Tots will find that many contributions that may have gone to them now go to Angel Tree or another charity that does recognize the importance of Jesus to Christmas.

Being a jewish guy, that was my first thought.

But, think of all those that DO celebrate Christmas and aren't Christian. My athiest/agnostic/anit-religion/crazy GF wouldn't like it to much if someone gave her a Jesus doll to play with.

Ooooh, that's a thought. Could someone send one of those to the house for me, addressed to her? TIA.

I have to agree with that. I understand the meaning behind Christmas, that doesnt mean I would give a child a jesus toy, that they wont undestand.
