Santa Claus ?

it is also a Secular Holiday, you can complain that the Secularist took the holiday over, but then Who's holiday did the Christians take over?
Santa Claus is a distraction from the true Christmas. I became convinced of that when I was in East Berlin before the wall came down. There in the East Berlin department stores was Santa Claus but being a Christian was against the law.

Being a jewish guy, that was my first thought.

But, think of all those that DO celebrate Christmas and aren't Christian. My athiest/agnostic/anit-religion/crazy GF wouldn't like it to much if someone gave her a Jesus doll to play with.

Ooooh, that's a thought. Could someone send one of those to the house for me, addressed to her? TIA.

The is no Christmas without the Christ. You celebrate something. You may even call it Christmas, but it is a falsehood.

Santa Clause in Germany was not a Jolly Old elf either.. he was to be feared by children..

If you weren't good you got coal in your shoes left at the door before Christmas, and Christmas eve he kidnapped all the bad kids.. and were given eternity to spend in hell, or Wal Mart or something like that.

Oh, please! How can you say what I'm doing is a falsehood when christianity changed Christs birthday and it's celebrated on a pagan holiday?

The very definition of hypocrisy.

The point is, it is only recent history, since the 1960's or so, that people have been trying to take Jesus out of Christmas. Without Jesus, there is no Christmas, Christ Mass, the mass to celebrate the Christ.
:yay: the reason for the season

I think it was a Roman Emperor, Constantine, that set the Christmas celebration to coincide with Saturnalia when he made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. The early church didn't do it.

Are you sure it wasnt St Nicholas?

Its a different holiday on the eve of Dec. 6th St. Nicholas, the patron saint of children, travels from house to house carrying a book of sins in which all of the misdeeds of the children are written. If they have been good, he fills the shoe or boot with delicious holiday edibles. If they have not been good, their shoe is filled with switchs and coal.

And the German tradition was the Christmas Tree wouldnt be decorated until Christmas Eve (the idea of the Christmas Tree originated in Germany, probably to carry on a Pagan Tradition).
Old fat man dressed in red and white suit with sleigh and deer; looked like Santa Claus.

Like it matters who started the lie, when it's perpetuated.

Just didn't look as jolly or friendly..

He wears a Robe, that looks more official, and similar to the papal robes..
